Hey everyone so not a beginner triathlete but after a 4 year hiatus due to personal commitments (grad school) I am back but super out of shape. I finished my last race which was the 70.3 Vineman in 2013 and have only raced one sprint since then. I have the Marine Corps Marathon coming up in October and have registered for the Lake Placid full Ironman in July 2017 via the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. Not sure I can post that on here or not but In my previous races I have noticed a lot of people racing for good causes. This gives me two goals, support cancer research and give myself a personal goal. My Uncle died from cancer when I was 18 and it came as a shock to everyone. I was stationed in Japan and couldn't come back to see him off so this is my way of doing him proud. Not a sob story just a personal one, most triathletes have a story for what drives them to endure all the hours of training. Anyways.....

Beginner Triathlete gave me the tools I needed to complete my 70.3 and now I am back for my road to a 140.6.

I am super excited to get back into the game!

Welcome back, and thanks for sharing what motivates you. Great stuff.

Good luck at MCM and at Lake Placid . . . let us know how they both go!

Why it’s so hard for us to talk about losing at a simple game? Sports are supposed to be about building positive character, supposed to be about fairness, equality, and striving for excellence.

As the fog cleared, the buoy that I first saw earlier in the morning was just the first marker in a very long line of buoys that stretched across the lake like a runway for a 747 jetliner.

Why is it so hard to start over after an extended leave from the sport. When it comes to training we can't live in our glory days!
