Is there such a thing?

I mean, I look at something like this....

https://www.xlab-usa.com/aero-tt.html

And I say to myself, "Self," (sorry, channeling an old high school calc. teacher).....
Whycome they don't split that thing, put a living hinge on the aero 'hump', a simple friction latch molded right in?
It'd be enough space for a few gels, a couple dollar bills, maybe a tool or two and still carry water.

Is there such a thing?

Might have to be a two-part thing....as the bottle itself is blow molded and handle the hinge would probably have to be vacuum formed or something. But still, shouldn't cost more than a few extra bucks.

Those bottles are cheap. Caps are cheap, even if you don't mold them. We sold off our blow molder, otherwise I'd be out there right now fiddling with something. We used to make sports bottles (the kind in the little carrying case that the football trainers have)...but not any longer. Sold off the machine. Still have the molds.

My wife actually gets angry when she thinks about the fact that these weren't around in this form for our first two kids to make it through those first few years of grade school where snacks and water bottles are essentially mandatory.

I only get mad at the fact I didn't think of it !  Although TBT I probably wouldn't have acted on it just like any of the other million dollar ideas I have.

Also, I'm not kidding here.
Well, I am.
But, I did go out into the factory and took a look at our old bottle molds. We made the bigger ones, that wouldn't fit a bottle cage, but we had some others we never ran that came with the purchase of that product line. The mold halves aren't separated...and I wasn't going that far with it so I don't know what we have. I'd have to dig through old records.

I'm actually thinking now of a retrofit option.
Not as much profit. But, I could sell them with a bottle and the real $ would be made on the premium markup of the bottle.

This is the one that my wife saw the other night that I have been kicking myself (no joke) for the last 3 days.
It's the simplest, most brilliant idea in this history of simple brilliant ideas....

There's a railroad version too. Arrrrg. This person could probably figure out how to get us to Mars in half the time for a tenth cost by simply saying...."What if we just......."

But what problem would this device be solving?

My frame "bottle" is for storage of two tubes, 3 CO2, CO2 head, small worst case scenario patch kit, and some tools.  The top tube storage is for gels, bars, etc.  Not shown is the aerobar 28oz. aero water bottle.  I'm thinking it's about as clean aero wise as I can get for frame attachments.

The tape is pretty cool and brilliant.

I am going with Donto in regards to your OP.  What would be the benefit of a split bottle?  maybe if it was split and one side was a gel flask.    I guess my other question would be for anything short enough I only need a half bottle of water I probably wouldn't need the storage on the other side?

It's not solving a problem. The problem's been solved a lot of different ways. Each method has plusses and minuses, depending on how you evaluate it.

This would just solve the same problem, more or less, with different +/- depending in that evaluation.

It could be EXCEPTIONALLY cheap..
It's certainly far more portable between all makes, models, etc.....and certainly only takes seconds to transfer (as opposed to a few minutes....I know...the horror...the horror!)
Just the big one, you're carrying that extra water. It might not be 24 oz....but I bet you could find a way to get fairly close.
And to carry that extra water, AND some 'things', you didn't have to spend money on TWO devices. Just one. A cheap one.

Tradeoffs...."aero" and stuff are obvious, but not to a duffer like me.
And, I'm actually not really thinking "for racing" here. I'm more thinking just riding....and even average joes.
Heck, my folks....who snowbird down in Del Boca Vista Phase II, always carry a first aid kit. I could prepackage one and really drive up the premium margin.

Definitely close. But I'm also guessing that costs $75+
And my mom would never use it.
And I couldn't switch it to my road bike. I've seen a lot of pictures of these kind of rigs. Surprising that so few of them are incorporating some extra storage like this one here. Tradeoffs.....I 'spose.

Someone on slow twitch had the same idea, and has developed a bottle that splits into an upper/lower combo. Upper for liquid and lower for flat kit. Is in beta now... :

Bingo. That's not the way I would have done it. It's way smarter from a manufacturing standpoint. Way smarter than what I was thinking.

somewhere in my basement is something like this.

I got it as a gift but dont think it would fit in a bike water bottle holder and never used it.

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?
