Pre-race routine:

Took the train in and a shuttle to the race start. I was there with about 45 min to spare. Checked my bag and did some warm up. Found my friend who was running her first 10km and chatted.

Comments:

This was relatively flat, being on the seawall. One uphill/downhill out and back by the zoo.
I still hadn't really decided when I got to the race site if I was racing the 10km and just running the HM or vice versa. Chatting with friends talking about going to a strategic planning meeting afterwards and that there are often drinks after the meeting helped me make the decision. I would race today. Figured to try for a 50min time. I haven't run a stand alone 10km in quite a time, so had no idea how that was going to go.
Went off with the 3rd corral with the 50min pace bunny ahead of me. Not much to say about the run itself, just trying to stay at a 5min/km pace. All of a sudden, the 50min pace bunny passed me. Wait a minute, he was just up ahead. Oh, there are two of them. With about 1km to go, I could see the second pace bunny just ahead. Try as I might, I couldn't catch him. Still happy with my race, a definite PR and not far off my goal.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
Warm down:

Grab gear bag, get to the nearby community center to shower and get off to my meeting.

Event comments:

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
