Wilmington, North Carolina
United States
Total Time = 9h 48m 57s
Overall Rank = 632/1562
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 29/100
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30. Had an Ensure and a bagel with honey. Gathered up the last of my stuff and headed to T1. Forgot my banana. Had some chews and Heed on the beach before the start.
Event warmup:

Nothing much. Walked about 1/2 mile to the swim start from where the shuttle dropped us off.
Swim
  • 1h 14m 36s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

For me this was an awesome swim. I was concerned due to issues with my shoulder. But, this swim was about 10 minutes faster than my last Full. Nothing to complain about here!! I felt very comfortable and relaxed and no shoulder pain!
What would you do differently?:

Not need shoulder surgery so I could have trained harder!
Transition 1
  • 11m 28s
Comments:

The wetsuit strippers did a great job! I love them! It was still rather cold and I was shivering which made it hard to put on my shoes for the 1/4 mile run to T1. Sad that I missed seeing Tom again. Grabbed my bag and ran to the tent. Took a minute to decide what to put on. Went with arm warmers and wind vest which ended up being a perfect choice!
What would you do differently?:

Not struggle to put on my jacket, then change my mind and take it off. But, in the end it was a good decision!
Bike
  • 3h 30m 44s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Can you say head wind? With a bunch of random cross winds thrown in for fun! There were a couple of times that I struggled to stay upright, especially on the one big bridge. God must have heard my prayers because we got a tail wind for the last 15 miles. This was a hard bike ride which affected my run.
Transition 2
  • 05m 46s
Comments:

Getting in to T2 was ridiculous. Dismount in the middle of a hill, then run thru gravel and on a rubber mat. You could not pass anyone getting to the people taking the bikes. And, they made us switch sides so that we were running on the right hand side of the bike. Volunteers were awesome. It was nice not to have to rack my own bike and another volunteer had my bag waiting for me and handed it to me as I ran by.
Run
  • 4h 46m 23s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

This was not my best run. The bike took a lot out of my legs and I definitely started the run too fast. I did more walking than planned, but still managed to finish with a smile on my face!
What would you do differently?:

Be a better runner!
Post race
Warm down:

Got my recovery drink from the Beachbody people - it was very good! Walked around a bit, got some pizza but didn't really want to eat it. Went back to the hotel so I could shower and take my wonderful husband to dinner. I could not do what I do without his help, understanding, and support! It was odd finishing while it was still light out!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad shoulder? Too hard on the bike? Too fast on the run start? I don't know, I was just happy to finish!

Event comments:

I was unsure what would be the difference between B2B and IM. Not much that I could see except double the price!

Great job out there! The swim was fine, but it got super choppy after the far buoy. That wind was terrible! Glad you guys didn't have to do that loop 2x! Nice job overall!

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?
