I want to upgrade the wheels/tubes of my Trek 1.1, what specs do the new wheels need to meet? All this 8,9,10 speeds, clincher, blah, blah it sounds like mandarin to me. Any suggestions for starter quality wheel set?

What speed is your trek?

9/10 speed wheels and 11 speed are different

11 speed wheels will work with 9/10 drivetrain But 9/10 will not work with 11 speed drive train.

The exception here is that mavic hubs generally all work with 11speed drivetrain.

As for size you will need a 700c wheel.

I would stick with a clincher. These are your standard tire and tube that has been around for ever.

There are tons to chose from.

What's your budget?

2011 Trek, Sun Race CSR86 12-25, 8 speed.

Budget ways I am not looking to spend much since most wheel sets are more expensive than my bike, just something a little lighter and better than the stock ones, I will probably look into something used first...

Good news is that 8/9/10 speed wheels can be had for relatively cheap.

But, if you were to buy 11 speed wheels they will still work with your bike.

I bought some Mavic Kyrsium Equips they aren't the best in the world but they look nice and made me feel faster.

Let's start with some basic questions/information and I'm certain that the collective BT community can steer you in the right direction...

What's your budget? What are you looking to gain with new wheels? Some wheels do perform better if you a little heavier, so if you are a little heavier/more muscular, what is your weight (if you'd like to say no concern, then that's fine). What type of terrain do you ride in? For example, if you ride only very flat terrain, then aerodynamics is really the only concern (well, how the wheel handle cross winds should be added), but if you ride in a very steep/hilly terrain, then weight should also be considered. The roads you ride on, are they all paved, or do you ride on some dirt trails as well?

The more information you can give, the better the advise you'll get.

I'm jumping back into the long-distance races next year and I'm wondering the best way to spend my money? Should I buy a new bike or a powermeter and race wheels?

My back wheel needs to be trued up. It has a slight side-to-side wobble, and I feel at times like I'm going to lose control when I ride. Is this something that I should only trust to my LBS to do?

The wheels are my first area of concern and I have started to shop around. I find it nauseating to think of spending the same amount for wheels as my bike. Any help?

Don't know how to take that rear wheel off of your bike? Is the chain making things difficult? Learn how to remove your rear wheel if you have to change your bike tire or fix a flat.

This article estimates how much time can be saved in sprint races by converting from stock aero wheels found on most tri bikes to more aero disk and composite spoked wheels.
