Which would you buy? I mostly race HIM and Olympic (no full IM plans for the near future) and while I look at power because I do most of my training on my Kickr, I'm quite comfortable riding based on HR.

Power meter, no question. E Tap is a nice convenience, but it doesn't even come close to the benefits you gain from knowing your consistent power output over an Oly or 70.3.

Read this article and decide for yourself.

I haven't priced it recently but DI2 & a PM was a bout the same price as Etap last year. Maybe etap came down since.

While DI2 has wires, it's a one time installation thing. So once installed, there is not much of a difference between the 2 systems.
Electronic shifting is really nice but has no performance benefits. That being said I have it on all my bikes because it's really nice and I got it super cheap.

Having a PM for training and racing HIM is very useful. Learning to use it for other purposes such as aero testing makes it even more valuable.

A PM is a good long term performance investment. Not an absolute must have, but probably one of the best tools to own for proper dosing of training, pacing and measuring progress.

Power Meter, hands down.

I don't know of any way electronic shifting will ever make you faster... unless your bike gains some aero advantage due to no wires with ETap.

A power Meter, if used properly to adjust training (Which you should be familiar with when using your Kickr) will help you train better and more efficiently. Using it outside and in a race only adds to that. It will also help pace those short efforts outside where heart rate lags, and it will help you better pace your race for a better run.

Now... that said... I'd really love Etap... especially since my bike is an older model and doesn't have internal wiring.

Thanks for the feedback and the Cycling Tips article is in line with what I was thinking. I'm not looking at Etap for aero benefits so I know it's really not an apples to apples comparison.
