Did this area of expertise require you to take many environmental related course? Reason Im asking is my daughter is in her soph year at college and is leaning towards environmental studies area. She still doesn't have a clear career path or specific job in mind. Do you know of any careers in this field that might tie in with the work you do? She definitely does not want to be an engineer, though her math skills are up to it. Have you worked with, interned or met people with careers in environmental studies? Any advice would be appreciated.

I was an civil/environmental engineer major.  There was also an environmental technologies major, environmental science and policy etc.  Those may require a graduate degree to really advance anywhere, being a planner is a good route.

Landscape management and Landscape architecture can also be an avenue into the field as the design/construction of many of the current practices require a knowledge of native plants and plants that can withstand flooding/drought conditions.

I found that a good way to figure this out was to go to some professor in that department and ask them how you could enter this kind of career with that major.  Its a field that is currently expanding so good choice!

Thanks Dave. Her school has some pretty good networking and placement services, so she's working with counselors for an internship this summer. She is averaging 19+ hours a semester, so an advanced degree is already in works too. I'll have her look into the planner route and see if it is something she wants to do.

A lot of groin pain has led me to many radiological exams. Doing NO running or biking for a month helped, but as soon as I ease back into training, symptoms return.

I was nervous. The water was cold. The cones defining the course were so far away. When the whistle blew for my wave, I waded in slowly to let everyone else pass me.
