If I buy a bike from a friend and its 2016 (new)... whats the deal with the warranty? Does it carry over?

Bike warranties are almost always exclusively for the original buyer.  Very rarely will it transfer.  So odds are you're SOL in that regard.

Very likely no, original owner only. Besides, you'll rarely use the warranty any ways, the only things covered are workmanship, the structural parts of the frame, etc. The drivetrain won't be covered, nor would brake pads, tires, etc.

Any recalls are covered however. I wouldn't worry about it.

The triathlon bike vs. road bike quandary. Before you even ask the road bike vs. tri bike question, you should have a couple sprint triathlons or duathlons under your belt.
