Comments:

Was in decent swimming shape but the swim was kind of a joke, basically made the course long enough to say they had a swim but not too far out so worst came to worst you could stand up. there was a riptide warning that morning and pretty good surf, they literally had someone out there holding the bouy down because the current was so strong. the 'swim' was basically a run in the water followed by a short straight section south where the current would pretty much carry everyone at the same pace! That being said I was glad they had it and we were able to complete a full 'triathlon'

Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

no way this time was accurate, my heels got so cold running in the sand they were numb by the time I got to my transition area and I had a hard time getting my shoes and socks on, was freezing! Took my time and dried off completely so I wouldn't be as cold on the bike, felt like i was there for like 10 minutes LOL
Bike
  • 37m 51s
  • 20 kms
  • 31.70 km/hr
Comments:

good bike overall, was a little disappointed in my average mph but it was cold and I kept my hr under control, got super annoyed with another competitor who was riding my wheel the entire time, he was sitting on it until I pulled over out of the way, then of course he would slow down and Id end up passing him again, this literally went on three times until I stared him down the last time. i'm not the type of guy that would tattle to the officials but he definitely deserved it and just annoying that he wouldn't stick to the rules in the spirit of triathlon.
What would you do differently?:

could have pushed harder, should have been more prepared and rode my tri bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

nice smooth transition
Run
  • 24m 52s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 58s  min/km
Comments:

took it out pretty slow, both my feet were completely numb from the bike so felt like i was running on bricks and was very stiff for the first half, picked it up to a pretty nice pace on the second half was wasn't fast enough to post a decent time.

Event comments:

Well this was a great way to get back into triathlon, I can't believe its been 7 years since my last one and its great to have a goal to work towards again. This was certainly the coldest race I've ever done with an air temp of 43 degrees, which caused it to be somewhat miserable in some ways but also a great challenge in others. This was my first HITS race which honestly I expected to be a little bigger and I expected more support out on the course but I'm sure the weather drove many away. Overall was well organized and the course is great, would definitely do again.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
