Subject: 2017 Olympic, Long, or Half Tri's
Seems like plenty of Sprint Tri's available this summer.
Where is a list of Long course/Olympic or Half Tri's in MN.?

I'm new to Tri and would like to do an Olympic or Half. Which ones would you recommend where the wind would not rip me apart on the bike/run or whitecaps on the swim?

Paul

Hi Paul.

To find a list, try the Races menu here on BT (blue toolbar above).  Start with "Find a Race" then limit by state and then by distance (type).    I think that database is mainly built on race reviews, so you can read those too when you find a race that fits your schedule.

My brain is not coming up with any really strong recommendations, I have done a ton of races around here and they all have their virtues (or downsides). Check out the list and ask questions if you see something you like.

One P.S. I looked at the list and realized that the word "long" definitely means many things. The Liberty "Long" course is a half iron.    Most other "Long" are something longer than a sprint, up to and including an Olympic.

minnesotatrinews.com has a race calendar that is probably a little more current than the BT race calendar. They also do some fun stories as well...

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

With stroke improvements I find that when I try and swim long I have lost any speed gains that I had because my stroke count just creeps up and up. I also feel like I'm running out of air.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

The schedule consists of at least 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work too. Most weeks have 4 days of cycling. The maximum volume is 14 hours in week 5.
