I received this email last week announcing this new race. Both of the race director are really experienced so I am sure this will be a well run event. I would sign up in an instant but I am already scheduled for the Udder Century that day.

Swimming in the Chain-O-Lakes seems like a dodgey proposition to me. But that swim is long for a Sprint, which plays to my strength. Hmmm.

This could be interesting. Wondering where the routes will go, with Rt 12 being right there. Some brutal hills possible on the run, or skipped entirely if they can get to the pathway. The race director had done Lake In The Hills for years, so would be used to working such road crossings.

Saw the course maps were put up. Could be interesting. Bike starts flat and then turns into a gradual uphill when heading north. Not sure exactly what inside that area of the park is (I'm on trails there), but likely small rolling. Could be a steep surprise or two, but shorter.

That run could be a killer. Riverview is no joke and it's 3 laps. Think the middle could go past 10%. I slowed to 13+min/mi recently and HR was still heading up into Z3. I also did some 4' intervals safely under 6'/mi recently too. The run down Forest Ave could also trash legs. It's not quite as steep, but still higher single digits. It's also a bit longer. I wonder if they'll have catchers at the bottom?

if they don't shorten the swim this race will be history in a year or 2. What beginer (which make up probably 50% of a sprint race) will want to swim 1k

And a 3 lap 5k.  That is going to get pretty crowded even if it is a small race.  No thanks.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?
