Subject: RE: Fasciotomy Hi littlelorinda29,
I had my fasciotomy surgery a few years back. The surgery routine was like- first a few hours in the pre-operating room, then talking with the anesthesiologist, etc. I was given anesthesia and then when I woke up, I was in the recovery room. Getting home was pretty simple, I was able to climb the stairs using the handrail. But my legs and feet were swollen, and it took about a week for the swelling to go away. But I was experiencing severe pain and pressure in my foot.
I consulted the physician and he referred me directly to a physiotherapist for a deep tissue massage in Toronto. I took the individualized treatment program and it helped me for a successful recovery. The therapist had also helped me in designing a home-exercise program and that too helped me a lot for faster recovery. Following a fasciotomy, I would suggest that physical therapy is necessary to restore the motion, strength, and function of the foot. It will be better if you discuss this option with your surgeon.
