Subject: Varicose veins
Want to know if it is a hinderance to doing a race or can I modify the race that I want to do and just do the bike and swim instead of beating my legs up doing the running as well?

I have chronic vein insufficiency in my left leg and had surgery about ten years ago to remove the saphneal (sp?) vein from groin to calf.  That sucked, but solved the issue of most of the bulging veins.

I had lived with them for about 15 years, played sports and ran/biked/whatever, no issues.  There's nothing about the superficial vein problems that should prevent you from training or racing - I finally got the surgery because I got saphenal varix, which is a bulge in the vein in the groin area that was really uncomfortable.

I would suggest seeing your vascular surgeon.  While it's not everyone at least you would know your options.
