But the weather seems to be playing jokes lately. Technically it is dry season and should still be so until sometime in May. But dry season never quite happened this year--there were some dry weeks, but I don't think we've gone more than 7-10 days without rain all winter. (This is really not normal--most years it literally doesn't rain at all, or at most once or twice, for six months. ) We've had three brief but intense rains in the past week. Yesterday I decided to go for brunch downtown after my ride. Was thinking of doing a little shopping after, but I got out of the cafe and it looked like it was going to DUMP. Got a taxi home and about half an hour later, lightning and thunder commenced, and then about an hour of hard downpour, followed by another four hours of drizzle. Yikes. Dry season....yup!
Politicians can say what they want about climate change, but it is very noticeable here. The past year has been unusually extreme with storms and flooding, and may just be a big El Nino effect, but over the last decade I have gotten rid of or brought home nearly a whole closetful of clothes that I can't wear anymore because it has either gotten too hot to wear them, even in "winter", or so damp year-round that I can't keep them from getting mildewed. |
