Subject: 4.20.17 Thursday Workouts!

Good morning BT!

4:45am:  :45 minute run, cruising in Z2

5:30am:  :40 minutes strength + core

My swim last night was fantastic--it started raining while I was swimming yet it was still sunny--the reflections underwater were amazing.  And yes, did my obligatory naked cannonballs--lol!  Love having that place to myself!

Kind of at that point in my HIM training where I'm 'over it'--the race is so close but yet I still have another big weekend of training before taper.  I shall push through as I always do!

Hang in there! I know that "over it" feeling--fortunately not there yet, which is good as I have another (I think) nine weeks to go!

Of course right now it is the hottest time of year--glad I will be away racing this weekend--the forecast LOW for Saturday is 81, with high humidity. Arrrgh!

Training has honestly become much less fun since pool hours got cut (probably won't be restored until maybe next school year). Now my weekday swims are always crammed (literally and figuratively) into Lane 1 of a 6AM club practice (and I have to be in my classroom @ 7:30). Yep, I get in 3000-3300m. And shower. And (kinda sorta) eat breakfast in that time. Also means that more runs are happening in the afternoon. It is still well into the 90's if I start an hour before dark, and the traffic is just ridiculous--feel like I'm taking my life in my hands to cross the street!

On that note...

6:15 AM: 3000m of swimming
5:15 PM: Hour-ish run with some 5K effort pickups

Tomorrow off again as flying out to Singapore.

Well this morning was a run day for me.  That usually is a good thing for me since my background is running.  I was planning on doing 3x1600m intervals, 3x800m intervals, 3x400m intervals all at a 6:20 min/mi pace.   Well I didn't pace it right.  The first mile was around 6:00, the second I tried to slow way down and was a 6:15, the 3rd mile I hit a 6:30.  The fist 800m was a 3:34, so...I mustered up a 600m stride to the end of the trail called it good for the day and started my cool down.  

I have been doing 3x1600 at 6:10 pace with 3 minutes rest for the last two months.  I was supposed to slow things down today and just use 1 minute rest.  Well... I am going to need more practice at pacing that work out.  :-)

Oh yes, Kim...I should wish you luck on your race.  I did Ironman St. Geroge 70.3  last year.  My brother had moved to St. George and bought a house there a few months before the race.  His family were great hosts.  I know you have done that race before so you will be well prepared for it.  It is beautiful there. I wish I were going back this year but I am going to see another brother in Cape Cod for a Ragnar Race in 3 weeks and I only get one trip a year.  You are lucky to get to do that race.  Make it a good one.

That swim sounds awesome Kim. I love swimming in the rain.

3 mile shorty run for me tonight. Kid of a twinge in my foot so I'm hoping it was a fluke. Happy Thursday everyone.

Got in my standard six-mile no-frills morning run earlier.  I'm definitely slower this year running, not sure if it's the earlier starts due to my job change, or just getting older and slower.  Probably some of each.  Tonight I squeezed in a 40 minute swim on tether.  The pool is finally warming up nicely, a toasty 74 degrees F now.  Sadly, I did no naked cannonballs in my pool.
