Have you been on the bikes to see what fits you best? I did the same thing you have just described. I had a hybrid, raced a tri, decided I wanted a road bike and bought entry level.  I was in a hurry, wanted a road bike and had $800 to spend. My advice would be to keep saving your money and buy a better than entry level bike or look around and see if you can find a used bike with better components that fits you well. My first road bike was a specialized Dolce with entry level components. It dropped the chain all the time and the fit was just never exactly great. I wound up selling it to a friend and bought a used older bike with much better components.

I just bought a Trek 1.2 (same as 1.1 except for the fork?). It was a 2016 model, so it was marked down a bit. I also looked at the Specialized Allez, which was also a '16 and on clearance too. The price difference between the two wasn't enough to be a factor. The Trek fit me better, though truth be told, I think it was the handlebar that fit me better. I would be willing to bet that they were nearly identical in size and geometry.

If I recall, the Trek 1.1 (also a '16) was on sale for under $600. I may have bought that, but the size I needed wasn't available.

I would go ride them both and see which one feels better to you.

I also did my first couple races on a hybrid mountain bike and ended up getting an entry level Felt F95. I think I paid around 700 bucks for it new and added clip-on aerobars and clipless pedals. Got the bars, pedals and shoes when a local bike shop was closing out all their road bike stuff so I got them for next to nothing.

I raced that Felt for several years and recently sold it and bought a used Felt B2 (TT). Love my B2, but gotta admit... I do miss my roadie..........

My first bike was a Trek 1.1. The problem with that bike is that it sacrifices a lot to get to that price point. I replaced the tires within a couple months and the rims within a year. The frame is solid, the gearing was ok. I know it's a lot of money to buy a bike. Two schools of thought I suppose. Get the 1.1 and if you get into riding, be prepared to upgrade to a better bike sooner than later. Or. . . spend about 1500 and get a decent lower end bike that you'd probably enjoy more over a longer period of time.

Ride the FX 3 by trek also. Same price point but you may find it more comfortable. It's a hybrid but with road bike type tires. nicer alum frame with carbon fork. There are ranges up and down but the 3 has a good bang for buck.
