Pre-race routine:

My Pre-race routine was - well, going way back - pizza for dinner the night before (YUM! It had corn and pesto and tomatoes and omg), a great night's sleep at my friends Kim and Mike's house and a freak-out morning moment when I realized I forgot to negotiate the coffee situation! I ended up skipping out to McDonald's and getting the egg mcmuffin meal. The coffee was divine, the muffin delish and I saved the hash brown for after the race.

The thing about eggs is I shouldn't eat them in the morning. So my pre-race routine also included me running to the port-a-potty when the second swim wave was being released and I was swim waver four. OMG.
Event warmup:

I simply tried to figure out the ins and outs of the transition area with this lovely woman Karen who had her bike next to mine. I had awesome bike neighbors. One was a Betty. I think her name was Laura? Anyway, I sighted my bike from each angle, powdered my socks, tried out my brand new trail-ish shoes and was ready to go. I decided at the last minute not to wear my wetsuit. More on that later.
Swim
  • 17m 33s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

My sighting was better than ever. I felt so happy and so free and so very part of. Did I mention it was lovely?
What would you do differently?:

Probably get used to my wet suit so I could gain some speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

I was slow during this transition. I stared at my socks for awhile contemplating life or something.
What would you do differently?:

Focus.
Bike
  • 39m 15s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Best turns I've ever executed. Gear shifting is improving as well.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. This is a lower speed than normal for me but the course was pretty tough. Probably practice hills more before this particular race. The Conway/Ashfield loop would be perfect.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

This transition was fine. I kept my same socks on and I had practiced getting in and out of my new shoes so all was well. I hesitated a moment to eat 1/2 espresso shot.
What would you do differently?:

Think more about nutrition ahead of time.
Run
  • 35m 13s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

So many wonderful people along the way. Both spectators and competitors. There was a man in a wheel chair with no legs, honking his wheelchair horn for people and just screaming for them. It made me emotional. What an awesome and special guy. There were tons of kids cheering with their parents. I paid special attention to the girls, wanting to show them they can do this too! I promised myself I wouldn't walk besides the mountain part but a little toddler boy with curls offered my water and you bet your buns I took it, walked with it and drank it. Some lady sprayed me with a hose because she thought I said yes to her offer but I was just too tired to say no. The people in Littleton are really, really amazing. Anyone with a hose asked before spraying! Loved them. If I ever more,it will be Littleton just for the people!
What would you do differently?:

I'm really not sure. Not walk? Run faster? I know I gave it my all because I had nothing left at the end, but this was a really slow pace for me!
Post race
Warm down:

I walked to the lake/pond. I sat. All was well. I stayed there for a long time and floated and chatted to anyone who would listen. I met a 57 year old woman who probably kicked my ass on the course and I loved her.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Simply not enough: swimming, biking, running. I feel like it's still the beginning of the season but really it's the middle. Get it together, Girl!

Event comments:

FIRM nails it again. One of the most fun days I've had in a long time. Thank you.

I wouldn't change a thing. Wonderful participation, organization, beautiful medals and of course...Appleman!

I love how they said, "Grace Coller, you are and Appleman." at the end. Just great!

Not my fastest time, but I have only swam once this season! It was an OWS the other day with Sara and I felt like my wet suit was trying to kill me. Since the water was warm, I thought I'd try it without the wet suit. First time ever. IT WAS LOVEEEELYYYYY.

Course: Holy more hills, Batman. This race is the winner chicken dinner of having hills to climb. Also, part of the course goes through the woods and you climb a bit of a mountain area. The hardest part mentally was running through a field. It was so pretty it was really really hard not to walk! I was shocked when I hit the point that said 2 miles - it felt like I should have been done!
