Subject: RE: 8.5.17 Super Saturday! Horrible weather here today--torrential rain every few hours interspersed with light drizzle; streets flooded. 3:30 trainer ride, watching videos of scenic rides in France and Italy and trying to convince myself I was actually riding there.
For anyone desperate enough to need to do a 3-4+ hour trainer ride, my video drugs of choice are the channels HD Cycling (happy German cycle club rides mostly scenic European routes to steady 90 BPM thump of techno music--you even get to enjoy the occasional "beer stop" ) and Bike the World (Go-Pro footage of scenic rides of over Europe, BYO music. Some of the videos on both channels are 2 hours or even a bit longer. Just discovered a new bunch of videos--check out Billy Yang's movies of the Western States 100 Mile and other ultra events. Great trail running pron and very artfully done.
(To clarify--I am not and will probably never be an ultra runner. My only forays beyond 26.2 have been a couple of non-competitive trail runs in the 50K range, and a DIY 60K-ish outing--mix of roads and trails--in my early 20's. I would never want to run 100 miles, or probably even 50 miles, at a stretch, but would love to do that course over maybe 10 days! But those are great films and might make nice trainer or treadmill entertainment. ) |
