Subject: Working out on Blood thinners

In May and June I had to get three stents placed due to some surprising blockage I had in my arteries. Ever since then, everything has been great. With the stents comes meds, and I have been on a blood thinner and will be for at least a year. I asked my doctor about working out on blood thinners and he wasn't 100% positive or negative about it, other than no squats for a month due to the cath going in through my groin.

I actually did the worst thing possible and did some internet searches on lifting weights while on a blood thinner and it was 50/50 yes and no.

Anybody here lifting while on a thinner? If so, any issues you have had?

P.S. I am on Brilanta if that helps the discussion

I've been on Coumadin/Warafin for 17 years, since I got my mechanical aortic valve.  My therapeutic INR range is 2.5-3.5.  I get tested every six weeks as long as my INR is in range, more often if out of range.

To answer your question, I've had absolutely no issues related to lifting or other training.  My cardiologist hasn't given my any restrictions, but did advise me not to lift to failure, but to go with moderate weights / higher reps.  I've followed that advice.

I have been on Plavix for over 10 years after having a stent put in the heart. I have worked out (lifted) run, bike, football ever since the procedure. I think my cardiologist would actually be more upset if i didn't do those things. It is concerning that your doctor didn't seem sure. Did you discuss with your GP or cardiologist?

I have beenI on Plavix (started out on Brilinta for 1st year) plus aspirin since MI/stents in 2014. I do find I bruise a little easier and bleed for a little longer when I get cut, but not really a big difference.

My cardiologist didnt seem to have any issues with any of my activities. His emphasis was really on staying active.
