Subject: RE: 10.7.17 Super Saturday! I can imagine that. During the two years I lived in Honolulu, it was pretty common for me to leave running shoes in the sand and just run into the surf, sans goggles, cap, or common sense, especially at the end of a long run. So inviting in that heat. On one memorable occasion I promptly got thrown out by the surf onto my butt and pretty much lost my shorts as well. Were I ever to run in Hawaii again, think I'd do so in a trisuit to be safe! SoCal would be a bit crazier--too cold!
I did that after the Honolulu Marathon--never stopped in the finish chute or after. One of my profs (I went to grad school at UH ) had finished just ahead or behind me and asked where I was going. You can see the ocean for quite a while during the very long, hot final miles of the race, the finish is maybe 50m from the beach, and it had been on my mind forever. I just yelled, "Ocean" and made for the water. Very nearly forgot to take off my shoes. Those were the days! |
