Subject: Wetsuit cutting
Hi all,
Over time, many on here have suggested cutting about the last 4-6 inches off if a wetsuit is always getting hung up on ankles.

I'm at the point where I am going to do this, but a few questions if anyone could help.

1) As dumb as it sounds, how do you cut it? I remember someone saying before to maintain the same angle. But do you use a sharp knife, razor cutter?
2) My wet suit has 2 black tape like seam coverings that go up about 3 inches on both sides inside of each leg. Will I sacrifice suit integrity by cutting it?
3) Lastly, I assume nothing will happen like fraying, as it is neoprene, but is there any after cutting steps I need to take, such as applying any products to the new ends to maintain suit integrity?

Thanks everyone!

Slow down! Where did you get 6 inches from!

You cut it with scissors, but might be best getting someone to assist.

People have said on here....if you just cant get it off your ankles, cut off the last 4-6 inches off each leg but maintain the correct angle that exists already.
Thoughts?

I've cut 30-40 suits when I was involved with a youth/Jr team.  4-6 inches was about avg.....but a few of the Jrs. had their suits cut to mid calf.  I marked it and cut it with a scissors.  If it wasn't even I trimmed some more.  This has to be the most over-thought equipment alteration on the planet.

Thanks Left Brain!

That's the advice I was looking for! I didn't think it would be complicated, just wanted to be sure

I'd probably put a dab of superglue on the ends of the seams to potentially head off seams unraveling, but other that that Lefty is right.

Yeah, I don't know if that's needed or not....I guess it can't hurt it.  I've never seen one unravel, but I'll grant that most of them were high end suits....but I didn't see any cheap ones unravel either.  And these were teenagers who can't take care of anything.

I think wetsuits unraveling, from cutting them, is a spook story that has been passed down through the internet to scare newbies for fun.

Exactly. Just make sure that if you are using right handed scissors, you cut counter clockwise, and if you're using left handed scissors you cut clockwise. Be VERY careful about. Other than that, nothing to worry about.

I have heard that if you drop the cuttings into a jar of competitors' tears, the cuttings will grow into a new wetsuit ...
