So the news is starting to trickle out.....so far, no big surprises. The FBI used the Steele dossier as evidence to justify a FISA warrant to spy on a member of the Trump campaign. This has been talked about for months. I did learn that to accompany the dossier the FBI cited news reports.....problem is, those news reports were based on the same dossier.

The idea of the FBI spying on the Trump campaign during an election is rather chilling.

All that is going to come out is that Democrats tried to spy on Republicans and got caught. Guess what? Republicans did the same and have not been caught (yet). This is just more partisian bickering that does nothing to help the American people, its just more of the same, with a dash of criminal activity thrown in for entertainment.

I struggle to see this as anything more than party politics that normally goes on in the shadows exposed to the light. If you hear people claiming "grave concerns" over this, it probably means they will be indicted soon. Nothing to get excited about.

So the FBI did not tell the FISA court that the Steele dossier was paid for by the DNC even though they knew that. IOWs, a lie of omission.

Steel had been fired by the FBI but still met with Ohr.

More like they Democrats used the power of the DOJ and FBI to spy on political opponents in corroboration with the DNC and Hillary campaign.  I can assure you with certainty that the Republicans didn't do that.

Hillary's campaign oppo resarch was used to weaponize the intelligence community against the Trump campaign.  (illegal)
Senior DOJ/FBI staff hid information from teh FISA court about the origins of the dossier.  They pretended that they didn't know about it, but did.
The DOJ officials used Yahoo News as further evidence to corroborate the FISA warrant to the FISA court, but failed to disclose that Yahoo was fed by steele.  Basically circular reporting which is a cardinal sin in the intelligence network.

Remember when everyone was trying to say Trumps campaign was just wire tapped incidentally when we were tapping foreign people?  hah
Then throw in the massive quantities of unmasking where the white house was getting recordings of all these conversations with names associated to them.  I feel this memo is just the tip of the iceberg.
Remember, Watergate was from some Nixon aids breaking into the DNC HQ to steal information about their opposing campaign.  This is Hillary, the DNC, the DOJ and of course Obama by proxy using the entire power of the US Government to continuously spy on the Republican nominee throughout the campaign.  yeesh

What more do you need?  They took "trumped up" information provided by the DNC and Hillary Campaign to the FISA court to get a warrant to surveil the political campaign of Trump and you're saying "that's it"?

Even after the FBI completely discredited the dossier and witheld payment to Steele, they continued to use it at the court and renew the warrants throughout the campaign.  FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe flat out said that the warrant against Page would not have been granted without the dossier.

That's kinda what I'm doing thinking about the democrats' and the media's opposition to releasing the memo! Clearly there is nothing in the memo that should be withheld from the American people. Where did all the dems on the committee vote to not release this? Seriously, I don't get why anyone (except maybe the FBI) would not want this to come to light. The system is not perfect and we are not all angels! We need to take an honest look at this and find out why it happened and put in place mechanisms to keep this from happening again.

I hope Trump has learned from this.....so when he uses the power of the FBI to spy on the democrat in the next election he is NOT as sloppy and does a better job of covering his tracks. :-)

Do forget the lie of omission in that they never bothered to tell the FISA court that the source of the dossier was the DNC! The FBI went before the court with a document that had not been vetted and they knew it was opposition research paid for by the other side and they did not telling the court this?! Why? Because they would not have gotten the warrant and they knew that!

Look at the dates Tony! They got their FISA warrant late October 2016. So let's go to the Trump campaign a month earlier and see what they had to say about Mr. Page.

Trump campaign communication director Jason Miller "Mr. Page is not an advisor and has made no contribution to the campaign." " I've never spoken to him, and wouldn't recognize him if he were sitting next to me." "He’s never been a part of our campaign. Period."

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung "We are not aware of any of his activities, past or present."

The delightful Kellyanne Conway "He's certainly not part of the campaign I'm running." "I have not spoken with him at all, in fact, meaning he's not part of our national security or foreign policy briefings that we do now at all, certainly not since I have become campaign manager."

So a month after all of that was very publicly stated, this is how the FBI attempted to surveil the political campaign of Trump? LMAO! Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

The opposition could be that many of the things stated are just false. Just saying. Reads as opinion to me for the most part and don't see enough corroboration. Doesn't mean it's not true but you'd think even if half these things are true charges would be forthcoming and then we'd really be able to see actual evidence instead of opinion and conjecture.

One thing that's confusing to me is the timelines.  For example, as you pointed out, the memo mentions that the FBI and DOJ sought and received a FISA probable cause order authorizing electronic surveillance of Carter Page from the FISC.  Then it goes on to say the FISA order has to be renewed by the FISC every 90 days and each renewal requires a separate finding of probable cause.  It says Comey signed three applications, Andrew McCabe signed one.  Then Sally Yates, Dana Boente, and Rosenstein each signed one or more.
Not sure if those are separate (non-Page) incidents or if they're renewals of the Page one that don't make sense form a timeline standpoint.

I read today that Carter Page had been under investigation in 2013 as the FBI thought the Russians were trying to use or recruit him. So shouldn’t the FBI have warned the Trump campaign about Page?

If the FBI was investigating a person for child pornography and the guy took a job as an elementary school teacher, wouldn’t they warn the school? Just a law enforcement question. Maybe that is not allowed? Good question for LB who is AWOL killing Spanish immigrants....

Sadly, you are probably correct.

However, there are blatant laws that were broken in this process that could quite easily be prosecuted so who knows.

The most glaring one is the DNC/HRC camps using a lawfirm to launder campaign money to Fusion GPS to hire foreign opposition research.  This is a blatant campaign law violation and likely several other laws related to wire fraud and such due to how the money was hidden.

Also, don't forget we are only seeing what they're letting us see.  There's a TON more information that's not being disclosed such as who was recorded, what was said, who was it distributed to, who unmasked the names, etc.  There's a lot more scandals behind other scandals.
It wouldn't surprise me that the threat of prosecution could be leveraged for political gains in other areas.  I don't like it, but it's probably going to happen.  most notably, I think of Obama.  He was very outspoken against Trump in the very early days and then shortly after the "Obama wire tapped me" tweet he's been a ghost.   It wouldn't surprise me if there was a conversation about him laying low being in his best interests going forward.  (total speculation on my part of course)

It gets better.  The author of the Yahoo article cited as corroborating evidence by the FBI worked for Fusion GPS.  You can't make this stuff up.

Also, remember that the Russian chick that had the awkward meeting with Don Jr. and company.  Said she had bad stuff on Hillary, but then wanted to talk about adoption when she got there.  She was also hired by Fusion GPS.

So basically Fusion GPS wasn't just an oppo research outfit, they were an oppo manufacturing outfit.  They manufactured the Russian interference story, they manufactured the Steele dossier, they manufactured corroborating evidence.  From the very beginning it all revolved around them and it was paid for by the DNC, HRC, and the FBI.  Absolutely incredible

So I spent the morning carefully reading the memo and listening to both conservative and liberal commentators on this. To my mind the principal issue here is was the Steele "dossier" used as the sole, or major, evidence against Page and was the nature of this document disclosed to the FISC. While we do not have all the evidence, and this memo does not even attempt to provide a complete picture, I think it entirely likely that additional evidence was required by the FISC and that the nature of the "dossier" was pretty evident from reading it (yes I have read it). I do agree Tony, why DNC and HRC campaign had Perkins Coie hire Fusion GPS is a head scratcher. But what is clear is the line connecting FISC decision and the Trump campaign is pretty thin.

If the idea behind the drafting and release of this memo was to give the admin some cover to dump officials at the top of the DoJ and FBI, I think they threw up an airball.

I don't necessarily think it was to throw cover, but the entire Russian collusion charge stemmed from this very investigation.  If the foundation of the investigation was a fake dossier then the investigation is over.  I think it's pretty fair to say there is no crime and there was no crime when it comes to collusion, so Mueller is simply trying to lay purjury traps for everyone and see if he can knock out a couple more people with any inconsistencies.

It appears there's a second memo that's coming about state department abuses, and I've seen the below information mentioned in several places.  The FBI agent who interviewed Flynn was Strzok.
