NOTE: race from late July. I figured I would update a couple of my incomplete discouraging race reports. I am better now and have fixed my swim problems. IMCDA 2007 here I come!!!
This report is titled: Swim Distaster Part III - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Here are my comments from my blog from the day - no other information will be added. I am just getting my races up to date.
I was waiting for the results to be posted, but today's race should best be described as "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". The "good" was the bike - I hammered the entire ride and my computer showed a 20+ mph average; the "bad" was the run - today was probably my worst 5k run in a long time; the "ugly" was my swim - I spent a lot of time doing the sidestroke. Today's swim was better than Colonial Beach and Breezy, so I am making progress. I didn't have a panic attack, nor did I hyperventilate. However, I just needed to breath. I was finally able to freestyle on the last leg until I got hit by one of the biggest jellyfish I've ever seen. That just took the wind our of my sails. The jellyfish were as big and bad as I've ever encountered.
I am not discouraged by today's race. In fact, I am somewhat encouraged as I know I am making progress. However, I have decided to push my long race plans back one season. I just need some more races with 1k open water swims until I get over this hump. So, the plan as of now is: 1 or 2 summer/fall Sprints; Oly and Half Iron races next season; IMCDA in 2008. In the meantime I will keep tri training with focus on the long runs and swimming. Along with improving my swim, I will aim towards a BQ at the Shamrock Marathon next March - that should keep me occupied.
