Comments:

Sicne it was such a small race they did not track the splits and of course my watch was on the wrong mode, so I missed getting all of my times! Ugg. I know my time was under 10 minutes as they were starting waves every 10 minutes and I was out of the water before the next wave.
What would you do differently?:

Double check my watch!
Transition 1

Comments:

There was a spedd bump at the bottom of T1 so I was very careful not to go flying out of T1

Comments:

Very hilly. It was an out and back course, the 5 miles out were almost entirely uphill! It was an incline for most of the way, no rolling hills. I tried to get into the small chain, but it made a noise that made me nervous that the chain would fall off, so I stayed in the middle ring. There were also lots of switch-backs, at one of them I said, "are you friggin kiddin me!"...I was still going uphill! At the turn-around it was a traffic light and I was waiting for the signal to change and after 2 cycles, I gave up and just crossed against the light. While waiting for the light 4 people passed me. Then on the way back I dropped my water bottle!
What would you do differently?:

Get into the smaller gear
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was in a different spot than T1, no bike racks, just put the bike on the ground.
Run

  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

The first half of the run is almost entirely uphill! I only 2 walked to parts of the uphill. My hip was tight from the hills on the bike, so I walked up the first big hill. Walked another uphill section on the way back. Figured I was walking about as fast as i could run the uphill. There was a woman on the opposite side of the road in the race and my goal was to pass her, it took a while, but I finally did and I stayed in front of her the rest of the run. Had no stomach issues, thankfully! Managed a good overall time, but I wish I had my split info.
What would you do differently?:

Just my watch stuff
Post race
Warm down:

walked and stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Long uphills. I've got plenty of rolling hills in Tiburon, but none that go uphill for miles

Event comments:

Not sure if I would do this race again unless I had more long hill training. Enjoyed the pool swim, but I think for races open-water swims get me more pumped up to race. Great race t-shirts!
