#1  The start of the swim.  Air temp was 46, water was 71

#2  I hung out with this insane family for 5 hours...they do it every year.  Check the sign!  "You're not loco...you're an Iron Padre...south of the border"

#3  This guy HAD to have lost a bet!

#4  If he can do it on 1 real leg, I can do it on 2

Max those pictures are awesome!  And as far as the guyin picture 4 - that is too cool!  There's something called the Challenged Athlete's Foundation - there are a bunch of tri's in Colorado that benefit the organization.

Can't wait to see your pictures next year!

Gary, actually the swim start was not as chaotic as it appeared, since there was a lot of width to the start.  Everyone was in the water, and you could hang at the back and avoid the big crush at the front.  The swim is actually 2 laps.  Up and back on the lake, then you actually exit the water, run about 20 yards, go back in and do another up and back lap.  The run from the swim to the transition area is a good distance, maybe a tenth or a mile or more, but it's all on mats placed on the road.  The organizers of this race have thought of EVERYTHING...you will be amazed at all the little details.

BTW, you will know it when you go past the Loco family...full tilt rock music playing.  Nothing better than climbing that hill to AC-DC's "Highway To Hell."

My top two fears regarding IM Arizona are

1) Being able to absorb enough food and drink to keep my 200 lb body going all day.  I trust that the plan that I am going to follow will prepare my body to handle the endurance aspect of it, but I would hate to be physically capable of an Ironman, only to have a lack of adequate nutrition doom my day.

2) Surviving the mass swim start with 1999 other maniacs.  As I have said many times before, swimming is my weakest of the three disciplines.  I don't want to get trampled mercilessly and start the swim at an even greater disadvantage.  I hope it's really not bad, as you say, Max.
