The landmark closed its doors for good this morning, after Patti Smith played the final show there. I'm a little sad.

Punk is so old news.  Call me when the Whiskey closes on the sunset strip...I'll be crying.

Never got close to it, but heard about it in a song:

Talking Heads, Life During Wartime.

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B.,
I ain't got time for that now
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
somebody might see you up there
I got some groceries, some peant butter,
to last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no
headphones, ain't got no records to play

Don't worry, the smell of the dressing room will live forever. Things that powerful don't die.

I just hope that they're able to preserve some of the walls. With the stickers and graffitti, that's a real slice of American cultural history.

Saw this in Slate . .

Some of my favorite bands played there either regularly, on their way up, or on the way down.

Regrettably, never made it myself, despite living in NYC until I was 11. .My parents obviously gave two figs for my cultural advancement.

While never in the dressing room, the odor of the bathroom is forever engrained in my olfacotry senses.

I was there a handful of times in the early-mid 80's, but never saw anyone of any great fame.

I understand it's going to be "recreated" in Vegas. Now, that's sad.

It's demise had nothing to do with the changing of musical styles (in response to the hip-hop reference), but a feud with the non-profit group that owned the buildig regarding the lease.

Me too.

Ask kids if they ever heard of David Bowie,Deep Purple, or The Who if you want to get a laugh.
