i just drove back from california today and i feel tired and disjointed. i am beating myself up for not going to the gym, yet i can't motivate myself to go. i have been on this website for the past hour reading about training, but getting my butt into some shorts seems impossible. i didn't train friday, saturday or sunday aside from biking to the beach. and worse than that, i ate junk all weekend. pizza, tacos, some fried potato concoction (at the orange county fair), and then there was the alcohol. i know that everyone says that it's okay to rest/take time off, but i worry that missing a workout (or three workouts) will mess things up for me. i'm probably being tired and melodramatic, but it still bugs me. thanks for letting me vent.

look a couple threads down "I need some discipline" or some such.... a bunch of us with the same rant are going to log 'pink' days for 2 weeks and bother, inspire, goad, bribe, pester and other wise make sure each other is getting out there and just doing it!!!!

Is it pms?? This is exactly how I feel around that time of the month and I usually give myself permission to rest. My workouts are usually sluggish anyway! I also eat more junk too. Then I start thinking I am fat, of course it is the bloating. Such a vicious cycle, every stinking month!

cristin, I've felt the same way....and yes, it's okay to be tired and melodramatic once in awhile....

vent away, get it out of your system, remember the good things about your trip to California, put the bad feelings behind you then get your butt to the gym....

no long term harm done except hopefully a few good memories of a great trip....

the pizza wasn't that good. it had onions, mushrooms, and peppers. i did forget that i also had a calzone with just mushrooms and that was wonderful! i only ate half because i felt so guilty about it, but i did savor what i did eat!

ps. it actually could be pms because my mood has surely taken a downturn in the past couple days!

I travel a lot and I sometimes go 5 days without working out at all, and eating out and drinking every night. Did my first tri on Saturday and placed 2nd in my age group. It motivated me to train harder, as soon as my calf cramp goes away... But I eat pizza all the time, it is good for you, beer has carbs, ice cream has calcium, big burritos...

I'm with Jeremy. What's wrong with pizza and a recovery week? I just got back from a week of business travel where we were working from 8 until and average of midnight. No workouts (except for hiking around for the job) and NO guilt!

Everything in moderation..... even excess! ;-)

Man, I wish! When I say I am doing nothing, I really mean it. I sit at a computer, writing code for 12-16hrs a day when I travel, then we go out and usually drink more than I should and get up too early the next morning, then I am drinking too much Dew and coffee... I was in Vegas the week before my first tri, then the week before my next one I am traveling again, and always down to the low altitudes...

But seriously, what is wrong with pizza? I make my own, it's got good carbs, some veggies, some meat and cheese...

i hear ya. after being sooo good about my training, 15 stitches in my leg sent me into a training depression. it was so much harder to get out again after my training schedule had been disrupted. forgive yourself. taking a break is okay sometimes. then go get your shorts, your shoes, your suit, your bike...and go. you can still do it!

How about you set a smaller goal for yourself? It sounds like just getting outside for a walk might help, especially if PMS is behind it. Maybe there's a neglected dog somewhere that would relish the chance for a nice long walk!

Good luck!
