Hello!

I've been reading this forum for some time and I finalyy decided to take part in it in more actively. I live in Warsaw, Poland. Not many amateurs train triathlon here, but it's getting more and more popular each year. Are here many triathlets from Europe? I guess there are not so many from Poland as my country is not even on a country list in the control panel

Next season I would like to take part in my first competition (sprint distance). For now I focus on running mainly. I already did 5 km Nike Run Warsaw and next week is my first 10 km competition - annual Independence Day Run. Plans for 2007 contain also HM in early spring and full marathon late summer.

I am doing quite fine on a bike (me longest trip this year is 110 km around Bornholm island), but swimming is very poor. I can hardly breathe after 50 m of freestyle! I am planning the work on my techique during total immersion classes in two weeks. Running outside while it's snowing and freezy is not easy either and the winter is already coming here

Kind regards,

Marcin

Welcome to BT, and to the world of triathlons.

Swimming takes time, and you've already signed up for lessons which will be a big help.

Welcome Marcin!

It sounds like you are coming along beautifully in your training. I'm sure the total immersion classes will give you some guidance that will help you move along in your swimming too.

Thank you for all the good words! BT is very helfull indeed, this is the only place I know woth so many triathlon fans. And its very motivating as well

I did not mention that I already lost 20 kg (that is 44 pounds) just running and applying healthy diet. Keeping the same pulse while running I have also faster pace - another sign of progress.

Bye,

Marcin

Hi and welcome.

Good to see some more European in here You have come to the right place, there is a ton of help to be found here. And the only stupid question is one not asked.

When you start swimming regularly you will be amazed how fast you will improve.

Den dobry!

Welcome to BT. I'm a relative newcomer myself, but have found great information and lots of support here. Warsawa is a long way off for most of us, but this is a cozy on-line community, which makes vast distances seem smaller somehow.

Congratulations on your weight loss and fitness accomplishments so far. Can't wait to hear about your first sprint tri experience.

Hi Marcin, I'm a newbie myself here and hope to do my first sprint Tri in June 2007 in Texas. Congrats on all of your hard work and your weight loss, you're an inspiration! I'm half Polish, and hope to visit Poland some day, maybe then they'll have more tri's! That would be amazing!
Take care.

Welcome to BT. It's nice to see someone on this site from Poland. My parents are from Augustow. I'll actually be visiting Poland in September. The last time I was there was when I was 5 years old, so I'm very excited about the trip. I'm sure you will find the site very helpful with any triathlon questions you may have. It's great that your taking some TI classes. I actually went up to their swim studio for a day and it improved my swimming so much.

P.S. If there are any triathlons going on in Poland during the month of September let me know.

I'm glad there are some people with Polish background here

Triwor, the calendatr for 2007 is not available yet. It will be published at http://www.triathlon.pl/(the site is in Polish). You can check the events scheduled for September 2006, I think they will be similar next year. You can also contact the organizers directly and ask for specific event. I will let you know when the 2007 calendar is published. Also, many people take part in tri events abroad, especially longer distances (Roth and Moritzburg races for instance).

I found BT already very helpful

Hello Marcin! Newbie here as well, from New York. My wife and her family are from Poland, we went there this past July for 3 weeks. She is from Rzeszow and my sightseeing was limited to the southern part of the country (Krakow, Auschwitz and numerous day trips from Rzeszow). We did spend 3-4 hours in Warsaw airport during layover.

Good luck and I am hoping to compete (and complete) my first Sprint in Spring and end year with Olympic. These are my goals anyway!

Jak sie masz?

Good to hear some Polish tri-athletes out there.

I recently joined the Polish Runners Club in NYC. In case any one is from the area, check it out. They do mostly the NYRR races in Central Park. A few of the members did the Warsaw marathon a few months ago.

Welcome Marcin. I can relate to the swimming, I would be completely out of breath after 25-50m. I started training June 10th and yesterday I swam my first 1600m nonstop in a 25m pool. You will get there.
