Pre-race routine:

Drove a little over 2 hours from Manchester, CT to Portsmouth, NH. It was pouring the whole way up which worried me a little bit. Ate a bagel with peanut butter, a banana and two pizza crusts.
Event warmup:

Got there about 30 minutes before the race. By the time I picked up my number just had a little time to strech out the claves and walk to the start line.

Comments:

It was a good run. My best HM time this year (previous best was 2:13). Still off my all time best by about 6 minutes, but at least the time is going in the right direction. I will break 2:00 on a HM in 2007. Met several really nice people along the way. I finished the race with 2 NH state troopers who were extremely amusing to run with. Still had a lot at the end and probably could have pushed it harder throughout, but I was afraid of being tanked at the end. Overall a good race.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder in miles 9-12. I let up a little and could have maintained pace better
Post race
Warm down:

Got my medal, a water bottle and banana. Walked around, found only of the women I started the race who ended up with a blazing 1:56--so awesome. Got back in the car and drove home slowly in the rain with way too much traffic on the Mass Pike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight. I'm down almost 9 pounds, but dropping another 21 will have a HUGE efffect.

Event comments:

Good organization. Everything was exactly as promised. Nice job especially for an inagural race.

Kept the HR between 160 and 170 througout.
Course: New England rolling with a bit of a climb at the end. Some very nice streches by the ocean (although it was a little windy) and past some pretty houses I will never be able to afford.

That's a pretty impressive time even if it wasn't your best

I am also fully expecting to break 2hrs in my next half mary in '07. I missed this goal by 64 seconds in Hartford a few weeks ago!!

Congrats on a great race!
