Pre-race routine:

Got up and drank some water. Headed out to the event since I still needed to register.
Event warmup:

Jogged and stretched. Gulped a Karboom 15 minutes prior.
Run

Comments:

Might have started out too quick again. First 2 miles were a little over a 7 minute pace. But it was also downhill. Started getting tired around mile 4. It was really hot out.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to start at a slightly slower pace. Might have pushed it a little more at the end. Waited until 200 yards left to really push it, but probably could have done that at 400-600 yards to shave some more seconds off the clock.
Post race
Warm down:

I was spent. Took me two minutes to get back to my senses. Had an endurace drink and then went to breakfast. Egg omlette and some fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still relatively new to running. I have moved from the Back Middle of the Pack to the Front Middle of the Pack. I am just going to have to keep on putting in miles and adding variety to my workout. I improved by 30 seconds over my previous 10k best.

But it was also much warmer than I expected. Felt like August.

Event comments:

Fun race. A lot of good runners. Was surprised how warm it was. Westside Los Angeles is usually much cooler this time of year.

Nice race! Is this a PR for you? I couldn't believe how hot it was out there today. I'm sure with more temperate weather you could have shaved even more time off and probably held your initial pace. Great job.

Yes, PR. Still shooting for under 47 minutes. It will come.

You know San Vincente. A lot of uphill to it (and I don't seem to get as much benefit from the downhill).

Unreal how hot it was today. Felt like August on the Westside. I lived in Brentwood for 10 years and about 200 yards from the start so I know the area well. I don't ever remember a late November being so hot.

Will hopefully do this race next year.

You're doing very well for the fact that you are still relatively new to running. Great job!

Nice PR! A little more work and solid race strategy and you will break that 47 barrier.
