I changed my tire twice last night. and the same things happened.
I would change it, pump it up and then 5 or 10 minutes later it would pop. I was not riding, it was just leaning against the wall.
I checked the tire and rim for debri and they were clean.
what is happening and how do I fix it.

Is it a leak or is your tire exploding? "Popping" sounds explosive to me.

if it's just a leak, are you isolating the spot of deflation, to see if it occurs at  the same spot along the wheel/tire? This could help pinpoint the source.

How's your rim strip? Do you have one, is it cloth, is it worn?

I know you said you already checked the tire, but this was happening to me too.  I had a small hole in the sidewall of my tire (from hitting a rock) and when I got my tire up to pressure it was pushing into the hole and causing a pinch flat.  I went through 6 tubes most of which popped after I had stored my bike.  I replaced the tire and haven't had a flat yet.

It is EXPLODING. It made me spit water across the room.
And it was the same thing. Exploded after about 5 minutes.
My pump has been acting fishy lately. Is it possible that the psi indicator has malfunctioned and I am just putting to much air into it?

Either you are pinching the tube with the tire when you inflate it or there is something inside that is popping it.

If you've checked the tire carefully, I'd guess the rim tape, as bear mentioned--check to make sure it is on smoothly around the whole wheel.  When I first got my bike, the bike shop had twisted the tape in one spot and the edge of the tape was enough to puncture my tube a few times before I figured it out.  If the tube pops in the same spot each time, you should be able to figure out the problem.

I'll second the rim tape, but it never hurts to check the inside of the wheel again. I had a *tiny* piece of glass inside one of my wheels that took out 3 tires in a month. I mean really tiny, like the size of a large grain of sand.

Exploding loud gunshot like sound?

The first thing that comes to mind is that you are not setting the bead properly. If this happens the tube will push the tire and the tube will blow explosively. Get a secondary pressure guage and check that against your pump. If you don't have a sidewall tear or bad rimstrip make sure you are mounting the tire properly.

-Cover the inside of your tire with baby powder/talc. Some tubes come pre-talced but even then you need to add some to the inside of your tire.
-Mount the tube/tire making that the tube is fully inside the tire. Don't let the tire bead pinch the tube against the rim. If possible use your thumbs, don't use tire levers to mount the tire.
-Inflate to about 60lbs and check the tire-rim connection and make sure it even all the way around both sides of the wheel. If not, start over.
-Lightly bounce the tire several times. Sounds silly but do it.
-If possible, let the tire sit a little while (30 minutes or so) and then inflate to full pressure.

What tire, tubes, and wheel are you using? What pressure are you inflating to?

I went through a couple of tubes before I found the tiny slice in my tire.. Just so happened when I was inflating the last one on dirt, the tire popped and I saw the dust come up to reveal where it was popping.

My mystery was solved!!

if it helps...during a HIM last year, i had four flats, all in the rear tire. i was carrying 3 extra tubes and the sag wagon gave me an extra one. i'm posting this because after every tire change, i would start riding and about 5-10mins later...pop...another flat. turns out it was the rim tape. HARD lesson learned.

I too had a rim tape issue that the tape was not butting together. It was missing by just a millimiter and causing a stress point.

If it's me, I dismount the wheel, and throw that bad boy as far as I can.  Then run over it with your car.  When there's frustrating stuff with the bike, it always makes me happy to think about just throwing it.

OK, go with bear's work....figure out where it blew, and go over that spot on the rim / wheel with a fine-toothed comb.  Should be easy-pleasy to pin down.  Show that tire who's boss....

Do the tubes blow in the exact same place?

I had a new training wheel do something like this. After like a month of use, I just started blowing tubes. After a couple, I start to see where they were blowing, same place each time. That place was where the wheel seams together. It had moved a tiny tiny tiny bit creating some sharp spots. I could feel them with my finger nail.

I tooks some wet/dry sand paper and sanded the seam smmmooooooth. No more random flats.

Now I also figure where the tube blew and check the rim and tire there too.

I also had an old front wheel just blow apart at the seam one day. Right after I inflated the tube, like 2 mins BAMMMMM!!! My ears were ringing and the side wall of the rim had pulled apart at the seam.
