Hey IMAZ peeps! Jeff (Q) and I were talking over lunch the other day about our weight loss goals leading up to IMAZ. We thought it might be extra motivating to try to organize all the IMAZers together that are also looking to be at a goal weight on race day.

I currently weigh 149.8 (same weight I was on race day last year, btw), and I would like to weigh 140 on race day this year.  I am sure all of our goals will be "small" as far as numbers, since we only have 4 months and we need to stay healthy and all that. But those small goals, 5-10 pounds, can be SO hard sometimes.

So, if you have a race day weight goal and would like to be the victim of smack-talk if you don't deliver, join the IMAZ Weightloss Challenge!! Just post your current weight and goal weight for race day (April 15) and let's get losing!

Jess

Okay, I'll play along. I don't know my exact weight right now, but it's somewhere around 171-172. That's 2-3 pounds heavier than I was for IMLP last summer. My goal is 162. That 10 pounds will make a difference of probably almost 10 minutes over the race, maybe more.

Right now I'm at about 153-4, and would ideally like to be 150 or a shade under come race day.

OK, I'm busted. But he knows it's a good idea. I am happy to see so many people interested! Let's post here once a week, on Fridays, to see how we are all doing with diet and weight loss.

I am in.  Currently weighing in at 182 (which is less than my race weights of this past year), but I would like to get to 170 prior to race day.  12 pounds...not that bad right?  Then again I better wait till after the holidays, I may have an extra 5 or 10 to lose.

There....170 is the goal !!!

Put the chocolate chips away!

I'm going to use Monday as my weigh in day. Since I do long bikes on Saturday and long runs on Sunday, that should be my lightest day

I'll post tomorrow with my 'official' weight.

I always find that I am heavier the few days after long workouts or races, so Fridays are good for me. I didn't put the chips away. And I had a grilled cheese too. I promise I'll better...tomorrow.

Sorry it took me so long to post!  I'm definitely needing to drop a few pounds before IMAZ.  We have just less than four months from today (12/18) so that's plenty of time to get off at least 10 pounds.

I have not weighed myself yet today, but before the weekend I was 159 and I know I gained some weight with the FIVE holiday parties I went to.  So I'll post a baseline weight either tonight or tomorrow.  I'm expecting it'll be about 162.

My goal will be lofty.  150.  I don't know if I can get there.  It might mean shedding some muscle mass.  But if it'll help me go a little bit faster, then so be it.  I'll bulk up again after the race.

OK, so...I'm in.  Jess and I thought this would be a good morale-builder for our little team of BTers doing IMAZ this year.  There are a bunch of us.  I'll volunteer to keep a spreadsheet of everyone's goals and everyone's weekly loss totals if that's cool with y'all.

Just make sure you have your figures in the thread by Saturday and I'll have something put together and posted by Sunday or early Monday.

I was just reading through my training plan for tis week and saw this.

Imagine showing up for a marathon in peak fitness. Then imagine having to put on a 20lb backpack at the start line to carry to the finish. I want you to get the most on race day from all the training hours you put in. Running fast is helped greatly by having a high strength-to-weight ratio.

OK, so far our roster for this challenge looks like this...

Jeff (Q)162.0150.0
Jessica (Tri Take Me Away)150.6140.0
Rich (rbschlesinger)229.4210.0
Mike (ABQkid)177.0170.0
Chris (cbost2678)248.0200.0
Dennis (dgunthert)172.0162.0
Don (dchapma3)155.0145.0
Kevin (srkr13)185.0180.0
Lane (Cavu9)182.0170.0
Tyler (KenyonTri)153.0150.0

If I have any of this wrong or if you'd like to make changes to goals or starting weights, please let me know here or in a PM and I'll change it in my spreadsheet.

As far as info, I'll be tracking...
current weight
last week's weight
current loss
current %loss
cumulative loss
cumulative %loss
% of goal weight loss achieved
(i.e. if you lose 10 pounds but proposed 12, your percentage would be 83.3%).

There's no "prize" for reaching your goal weight, and no winner in the challenge since our weight loss goals are extremely varied, but there IS a penalty for not delivering the goods...we get to push you harder next time.

Should we set a "passing grade"?  Say anything better than 75% of our weight loss goals would be a success?  Or do you want to make it all or nothing?  Up to you guys.

This is gonna be fun!!

How about if you don't make your goal you are not allowed sunscreen for IMAZ.
That ought to be a motivator.

Here's an updated roster.  I'm also attaching the initial spreadsheet with all zeros, in case you want to copy it and use it for your own purposes.  Next week's spreadsheet will have all the formulas in it, this one does not.

Good luck everyone!

Weigh-ins are on Fridays and then you can either post your update to the thread on Friday or Saturday.  I'll do my best to have an updated spreadsheet available on Sunday, but more like Monday morning.
