I got an email 600 out of 1000 people signed up and when you start getting an email like that you can be sure it will bring the number quckly to atleast 800 filled. If you plan on running it in a couple of months sign up today. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon Ok, I just signed up. Now I'm skeeeeeeeeeeeeeered! I've only done one Half and was super slow, but planning on 3 this year...I have been looking at this one for a week and was gathering up the courage to sign up since a) never ran outside in winter and b) i haven't trained on hills hardly ever... I did go running outside yesterday for an hour just to see how I would like it, and I LOVED it, granted, it's been really mild out, but still No turning back now, going to train for it Cary is only 10 miles away so I plan to run on the course every Sunday and hopefully, cover the entire distance at least twice before the race..that should ease my race-day jitters..hehe ANybody done this race? how hard is it? Any input would be super appreciated!! |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon well I done it 2x. I can tell you expect hills hills and more hills. I do not know if any point of the race is techically flat but does have some fairly nice stretches but its alot of ups and downs but its a point to point pretty much so what does up must come down. maybe I can try to look up an elvation change for the course sometimes soon. |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/529058 there is about 2438 ft of gain. My running club has a group that starts to run the course every weekend I think like 4 weeks out. You can join us if you want too. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon Todd, thanks! Do you have race reports from it? I would love to read them! Also , how well is it organized? Restrooms (let's face it, I have my priorities straight! lol), water stations, general organization? Would training on the course once a week (I would say I will start with 7 miles and go up every week) be enough if I have never technically done hills-only training, or should I go twice a week (or more)? In comparison to a flat course, how much harder is this one? I'm full of questions, sorry! |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon no race reports sorry. I could make some up I guess. 3 bathroom area kinda off the course litle ways. I think like 5 - 7 water stations. I have given a link to a map I would suggest that you take that map and drive the course since your so close it would really give you an idea of how the hills are and what you need to do. I tend to run this half marathon faster than any other half mary I done. I both times I ran it I set a new pr. I have 6 half marys also to give you an idea. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon Ok. Do you then train on the course a few weeks before the race? I am afraid that I may be too slow to train with any group (my first half-mary-Chicago Distance Classic-was 2:51:52)...AND, I run with walk breaks (Jeff Galloway's method)...usually 5 min run/1 min walk..keeps my shins happy and me going So what do you think? |

I would like too though once my knee is healed. I must beat saturday wife since well we basicly broke up and she thinks she can beat me at will. I do understand your pain though. winter is a bad time for me to run in my club since I am too slow but working to get faster. Alot of the slower people do not run in winter for some reason. 56 mins for my last 5 miler. not bad for me. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon Todd, what party are you talking about? sorry, i'm pretty clueless lol I guess i was asking your opinion on me training with a club, since you extended an invitation. Would i be too slow to run with a group? Is there anybody that runs with walk breaks? OR should I just train on my own? |

I do not know who been showing up since been awhile since I ran with them. just started walking with the walkers again. 11:30 to 12 is about the slowest they go on satudays but you can do from 4 - 12 miles pretty easily. I like running with a club because I run farther and faster than I do on my own. some of them did a run/walk and they found it worked well. no idea if they are stilling doing it. I been doing that on the few days I have ran. I would run with you soon as I am healthy again which I hope to be soon. Fianlly got my new shoes. |

Way to test out our winter running and keep in mind its only like 2 1/2 months away. I know nothing about those half marathons. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon I know it's coming right up! Valpo is new-i think 2 years old or 3? i'll probably do it..... Lake Geneva-have no idea myself, but sounds like it will be nice and scenic-the site says hilly as well. doing that one as well. Have you considered the Chicago Distance Classic and LaSalle Half? |

During the wno fun run you take 1 mis step and you will porbably end up in the hosiptal since its a long long ways down to the bottom and its very steep. Lyoshka - 2007-01-11 11:33 AM Have you considered the Chicago Distance Classic and LaSalle Half? Those are the same half. I did it in 2005 but I may or may not. there is a 8 hour race the same weekend I may do again. I am not sure. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Cary March Madness Half Marathon Sorry, I meant the Chicago Distance Classic and Banco Popular..that's the other one, right? So have you done the Lake Geneva Half? Or did you do some other race there? Very curious, since I signed up for that one, that sounds scary now! (I'm scared a lot these days, aren't I? hehe) |

(I'm scared a lot these days, aren't I? hehe) I done the CDC and Chicago Half in 2005. They are nice. I like the CDC dispite the heat and I may as my recovery year do the CDC over the howl at the moon. I liked the howl but doing around a 50k when it is 90 degrees out does not sound fun to me. Chicago Half I boycotted this year 1 because I was doing Milwaukee and I lost saturday wife to being a pace group leader for their training program. I have never done Lake Genva half but I looked into the full and I heard alot about the hills on that, I done the sno fun run, and avoided the Lake Geneva oly tri because of the hills. I assume if 3 races are hilly so is the 4th . I am sure its no worse than Cary would have been. |
