Subject: Cycling calorie calculator..accurate?

I'm wondering if this cycling calculator: http://bicyclehabitat.com/page.cfm?PageID=375 is accurate or not. Also, do you burn more calories on a trainer? How much more? Thanks!

My polar says I burn about 950 cal/hr when I am training on the road...That calculator says I am burning about 750 at the same speed.

Neither one is really "accurate", but what I do with my Polar is judge that I am burning around the same amount of calories (number not important) each ride.

For example, if I go for a 1 hr ride at 20 mph one day and my Polar says I burned 1000 calories, and then the next day, I ride the same ride, but a little slower, I would expect the calories burned to be lower.

It overestimates me by about 36%. I have a power meter that measures actual power I put out that can be converted into calories with more accuracy.

I keep saying most of these calculators overestimate calories burned. So if you use the numbers and wonder why you gain or don't lose, look to the excercise calcs.

My HRM is so far off...ran 7.5 miles and it says I burned like 1200 calories...no way that is accurate more like 750.
