I'm curious to find out about what others have to say about supplements for a Triathletes.  Besides the basics that most people are familiar with - multi viatamin, anti oxidant, protein, BCAAs - what other supplements would be beneficial for people in our sport?

I was going to attach the supplement paper from Hammer Nutrition's website, but it's too big.  You can download it here: http://www.e-caps.com/za/ECP?PAGE=FREEDOWNLOADS

I'm curious too.  I'm currently taking a Multivitamin, and Tonaclin CLA for weight mgmt.  I'm curious what everyone else uses for Multi vitamins, and protein.  I thought about trying a recovery drink, but not so sure about it.  Right now I just make sure I replenish my protein when I come back from a run or ride.

A second on the glucosamine.

Also might find glutamine helpful, and d-ribose.

Then there's EPO and testosterone...

Glucosamine, calcium, multi-viti, and echinacea.

Oh, and a pint of the black stuff once in a while doesn't hurt!

I take a multi.  Other than that, I try to eat a balanced diet.  Recovery drink is chocolate milk.

Probably not the consensus of most around here, but I see no reason for supplements unless you are having trouble getting things from your diet for some reason.  I'm not aware of any that have proven effeictiveness for general consumption (though almost everyone will say whatever they are taking helps them).  But, whatever makes you feel good.

thing is, unless you grow everything you eat, your more than likley not geting the nutrition you need .

the food stuff most of us have acess to ,are full of **** and chemicals .fact.

also, the r.d.a. system is outdated .

a multivit is a good bet to make up any short fall.
a multi and a fish oil. cheap as chips .

thebullmccabe - 2007-01-12 11:54 AM ...and a fish oil.

Or just east fish a few times per week.   Eating right is really not that hard if you try.  A variety of fruits & veggies along with lean proteins will cover much of what you need.

Going on my 6th season, I concur with Johnny K.  I eat a well-balance diet, including a recovery meal of carbs and protein, and stay away from candy.  The only supplement I use after a hard session is Endurox with chocolate skim milk or yogurt.

I personally go with JohnnyK's advice.  I drink soymilk with instant breakfast mix (chocolate) stirred in for recovery.  Its great.  As far as supplements go, I try to steer clear of them.  I try to get everything I need from my diet.
