If I have done my calculations right, today is 40 weeks to IMFL.  When is everyone going to start the IM training?

My plan is to do a 20 week base building and then at 20 weeks to go use the 20 week IM plan from here as a module.

What is are you doing?

Something to consider might be to pick an early season A race (like late May early June), then take a few weeks totally (or almost totally) off, and then dig into that 20 week program hardcore.  By breaking up the year, it will help you out both physically, but more importantly, mentally.  November is a LONG way off, and a "40 week season" might lead to some mental burnout.

But also, btw, the 20 week program on BT is great, except I found that it was a little light on the long rides (i.e. I started hitting the longer, 80, 90, 100+ mile rides earlier than it "perscribes", but otherwise, it was golden, and the weekdays are reasonable but effective.

GOOD LUCK!

Personally, I am coming off a taper, which follows a December Marathon. My next event is a half-iron in April, then by an olympic in May. I am really just trying to build a good base before ramping up to the full-iron program in June.

Good luck. See you there.

I am using the 20 week beginner plan here too. Base building now. I try not to think about it too much since it is still a long (but also a short!) way off. I have an olympic planned in early June to warm up.

First I'm building/peaking/tapering for Boston in April, then a short turn around to get race ready for Eagleman 70.3 in June, then a brief break to recover of real easy work, then rolling into the IMFL training towards the end of June.  I'll be using my own made up schedule and tweaking it as needed.

My focus for the Spring of course is running.  After Boston I have no intent of doing anything over like 12 miles for any of my runs until Eagleman.  After Eagleman it will be a lot more bike focus and swim focus with run maintaining.  I'm not going to go all out with a full marathon plan, but I will have at least 2 (if not 3) 20 milers in the training mix.  With my running fitness it will be about not losing more than trying to get it faster.

Hi guys!

I'm planning on starting the 20 week BT program in late June. Right now, I'm doing some base building, but really still trying to rehab my right hamstring from the pull late last year. I've been getting in the pool, and hitting some spin classes, plus lots of yoga to stay flexible. I was going to start the 20 wk. base building program, but am holding off for a few more weeks to work on some corrective hip opening stuff with my trainer. My personal trainer at the gym should keep me focused, and then this summer I'll join a triathlon club with access to certified triathlon coaches.

In nine months, we'll be Ironmen/women!
