Subject: I gotta give Infinit a Huuuge thumbs up.....

Maybe this should go in nutrition, but I used my new Infinit for my first long ride Saturday.  When I started riding I started out using PowerBar Endurance formula.  Too sweet.  Changed to Endurox while riding.  Too... whatever.  Chalky, sweet, disgusting when warm.  On these long rides I'd often bonk, just completely shut down with 10 + miles to go.

Thought I'd give Infinit a try with the $10 off coupon.  I added lots of electrolytes cuz I sweat like a pig, and low flavor.  It's a little salty, but it tastes.... substantial.

I had been flirting with a 100 mile ride -- 80 miles, 85 miles, -- but never went 100.  So that was the plan for Saturday.  I loaded up the bike with four bottles of Infinit - 2 normal size, 2 larger bottles.  They are 300 calories per.  104 miles, about 1500 feet of climbing in each of the first and last 40 miles, about 3000 in the middle 20, so it was work for sure.

Between 4 bottles Infinit, 1 Gu, 1 snickers, 1/2 power bar and 1 bottle of water, I made it with absolutely no bonking.  Sure, I was tired at the end, but I was not trashed.  My legs actually felt fine after the ride.  Had a bit of food after and a nap and all was well.

Given my prior rides, I have to attribute most of the way I felt to the Infinit.  I am stoked that I think I have my nutrition figured out.

Infinit is the best out there IMO. I started with Cytomax in my first season and my gut was in knots. I used Hammer Perpetuem last season but I had to add about a billion endurolytes to replace the salts I lose (Sweathog here too...). Can't say enough good about Infinit. I have two custom formulas. One for workouts less than two hours, one for longer workouts that has an amino acid blend.

Even mixing it at triple concentration for long rides I can stomach it when it warms up. That was another problem I had with Perpetuem. Once it got warm it was nearly unpalatable.

I still use Hammer Recoverite and Hammer gels though.

Where is this coupon and is this something that you can use in a half-marathon?

Edit: Went to the website and found 1/2 marathon specific.
Edit #2: Do you take this with you on the run or do you drink it prior?

Thanks

Thanks for the info I will give it a try. I just used Hammer Heed for my long ride and run this week. The lemon lime I thought was disgusting but I used the orange for my run yesterday and I thought that was tolerable.

I will definatley try the Infinit.

Yup, I'd use it for anything over 1.5 hours or so.  However, if you wanted to use it this weekend I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get it in time, took over a week for delivery - edit - maybe if you're getting a ready made blend it might get there faster.  Mine was custom

Sorry Ron, Infinit didn't post the code here, so you have to go here to get it

GolfMark -  Edit #2: Do you take this with you on the run or do you drink it prior? Thanks

I mix it concentrated, 2 scoops per hour I'll be out. At my 1/2 IMs this season I'll have six scoops  mixed into two fuel belt bottles. I'll take water at the drink stations and just sip the Infinit. I also use gel on those long races and training days though so I can get the calories I need without having to drink too much.

I thought about running with a fuel belt, but I would think it would weigh you down too much and be an irritant.

Would it be better to take the powder and stop for water and quickly mix it in? In my previous half-marathon, I took a Carb-boom at the mile 8 marker.

Thanks

How did you pick or mix your formulas? Did you use one of the premix formulas or go through the interview on the web site?

Went through the "interview" but that takes all of 30 seconds.  Look over at the forums on slowtwitch (sorry Ron), the owner posts over there and is apparently very responsive to telephone questions and such, but says that 95% of people get it spot on with the interview.

The only things I don't really know about are protein and amino acids.  I know some people can't handle processing protein on long workouts, but... as for the acids, I know less.

Had a friend dehydrate in IM CA using it after he added caffeine, so I avoid that

I run with an Amphipod, which is like a fuel belt except the bottles snap in to a plastic clip. I don't even notice it when I'm running. I have a 4 bottle set up but I strip it down to just two bottles for races. I think carrying powder and mixing it would be a hassle. I use the Amphipod through the summer on my long runs so I am used to it. I carry a gel flask as well for any run over an hour.

and it seems to work ok mixing it with eating other things.. like snacks on longer workouts? Sometimes i need something other than just drinking, but sometimes it mixes bad with heed, or gatorage and i get cramps

Only tried it once, but it went well with Snickers   In fact, I only at half the snickers at a time, since I really wasn't that hungry, as well as the Clif bar, never even finished it.

Disclaimer - we did stop for coffee and a raspberry chocolate chip muffin at mile 99 on the way home

As for running, I've read that some people mix it in a real thick paste, and sip that on the run, washing it down with water.

Yeah I haven't had ANY problems. My gut is pretty sensitive. I cramped up with both Cytomax and Perpetuem (when I took food also).

I have two custom Infinit formulas. One for workouts less than two hours and one for workouts over two hours (the latter contains some protein). I've taken food with both formulas with no trouble.

If you are going to mix it concentrated (two hours worth of powder in a 24 oz bottle) be sure you still take in an addition 24 ounces of plain water over that time period. Otherwise, I think any endurance formula will give you trouble, with or without food.

Ok, so i see that you answer their questions and you can get custom..... now, would i also order pre set for just training days?

Has anyone ordered their generic, or does everyone do the "custom"

I wouldn't use preset for training or racing. The customization was one of the things that appealed to me most. My sweat rate is pretty high, and I train in very high heat and humidity through the summer.

Duration of training (or racing) is more of a factor than differentiating between whether it's a workout or  a race. Does that make sense? So for example I have one formula for efforts under two hours duration, and a formula for efforts longer than two hours. If you are doing sprint races and/or your longest workout is two hours, I would just get one formula.

Duration of training is one of the variables on the form.
