Hello! Though I know it is still 8 months away, this is going to be my first tri. I was wondering if anyone else has done it and can tell me anything that would be good to know. Also, if you have a race report on here for it, that would be great too!

Thanks!

Welcome (love the screen name )

It's a pretty good one for hte first tri, although the swim is a little gross.  Other than that, mostly flat except the bridge to the Queen Mary.  Check my races for my report

I raced Long Beach last year and really enjoyed it. Check my race report. The swim is in the breakwater, right by the Convention Center so its flat and calm. Bike takes you up and down Shoreline Dr. with one minor climb up and over one of the bridges that takes you over by the Queen Mary. The run is pretty flat as well. Popular race, well run and you'll dig it!!

Thanks so much for the input! I live in Long Beach and of course train here, so I will tackle the bridge a few times this summer so that I know what to expect. I know the run route well. I know the bike route, though haven't ridden it yet. Haven't swam yet at that part of the beach, but plan to this summer. Out of curiosity...why was it gross?

Hearing that Long Beach even had a sprint tri last year was what inspired me to train, so I want it to be my first. Only eight more months! I can't wait!!!

It's the protected harbor, so it doesn't get a lot of the fresh inflow as the tides change.  As you get shallower, the water starts to smell.  At least it did in 2005.

The good thing about it is there is no surf and it's a really easy first tri swim
