How many FL people are planning on being in Clermont for the Tri-America events April 14/15th weekend?

I and a friend are planning on doing the Long Course event on Sunday.

I'll be doing it as well; I signed up for a package again this year, so I'll be racing in Clermont all summer.

My brother and I signed up to do the short course on Sunday. First tri for the both of us, so we're not sure what to expect, though I've heard that there are some pretty good hills on the bike.

Would love to hear some feedback from those who have done this event.

Yeah I will be out there as well, Looking forward to my 2nd Triathlon.  The short course looks a little longer than the one out there last year, so it should be a nice challenage for a beginner clydesdale, like me.

I'm in for the Sunday Tri-America Race and if water temp permits my wife will do the super-sprint on Saturday.

Hi Everyone,

I hate to hone in on your group, but I have a "central Florida" question. I'm in MarkQuiet's (Kirk's) mentor group and he suggested getting in touch with you guys. I'm a newbie and need a new pair of shoes. I live in Citrus County and we have 0 running stores here, BUT, I'll be in Orlando this weekend. Kirk said a good way to know if a store is a good running store is if they have a treadmill in the shoe department. Does anyone know a good running store in Orlando? I'll be near the convention center.

Also, is anyone on this thread from Citrus County and/or going to run the Crystal River tri's? Do you know of any training groups where a newbie could participate?

Thanks for an info you can send me. Happy workouts!

Tara

11 & 12 days and counting until the TA season opener events.  After the March challenge I'm now tapering and will be ready for the Long Course on the 15th, see you there...

Looking forward to one final good week of training before tapering off for the event. This is the first one for me so I'm approaching it with a mixture of excitement and nerves.

I'm ready though to put this all together and get this first tri experience.

Doing the long course on sunday. Road the course this morning. It's not too shabby. The road conditions kind of suck, but other than that the hills weren't too bad so it should be an ok race i hope. See ya all there. Happy training!!!

In what way did the roads suck?  Chip seal, holes/broken pavement, etc?

Anybody have any idea what the tempature of the water in the lake will be (or at least an educated guess)? I'm trying to decide whether I should rent a wetsuit or just suck it up and trust I'll warm up during the swim.

Thanks

Accuweather Forecast right now has it being pretty warm for a couple of days beforehand so the water temps should be ~ mid 70's.

Man I hope the wind forecast for Sunday changes, ack!

Winds:NW at 22mph
Wind Gusts:39 mph

Mostly broken payvment and some holes, but not many. A lot of sand and loose dirt in the turns toward the turn around point, so if you have any speed comeing around them they will be tricky. Road edges are broken and have 2-4" drop off in some spots. Just enough to put you on the ground. I would recomend staying away from the edges of the roads. Most of this is on cherry lake road. The other roads are in fairly ok condition.

The water should be in the 70's for this time of year. If the weather is good you should have no problem. If it's not the wet suit will be the least of your worries. You'll be warmer in the water than out of it. And for the wind......Keep your fingers crossed i guess!!!

Thanks for the insight. I'm not going to worry about a wetsuit. If it's in the 70's it will be no worse than swimming in spring water and I've done that enough to know you warm up pretty quickly. Like you said, it's out of the water that we might have more of an issue.

I'm keeping everything crossed that those wind predictions prove to be significantly less.

Anyone going to be wearing BT clothing?  I'm not but I think a friend may be (TitanIV), he's doing the short course.  We're riding over together so if you see him say hi and maybe I'll run into you.  Depending on the wind, if you see a guy with a funny hat on during the run (avator) that'll be me!  Otherwise I'm wearing a Desoto Trisuit with black legs and the top is Dark Blue with a Yellow front and Back.

I don't have any BT gear, but I'll be wearing a Louis Garneau tri top and shorts...totally unflattering white shirt with black and red trim on the sides and black shorts with white trim. I'll be doing the short course.

Though it might be easier to identify me as the one that will be crawling on all fours for the last mile of the race!
