Subject: My dog sleeps a lot

I am not normally home just sitting around, but today I am.  I have realized that my dog sleeps a lot.  She just goes from one spot to the next and promptly falls asleep.

Sometimes, if she's feeling frisky, she'll get up, stretch and move to another couch to sleep.  Man she has it rough!

Sounds like all three of my critters. One cat is sleeping on the chair in the living room, the other is sacked out upstairs on my bed and the dog is asleep on the landing to the basement.

The cats will wake up for a snack and then go back to sleep.

The dog will wake up, go out, and then come back in and go back to sleep.

It's not so bad when just one of them is sleeping in the same room as I'm in, but when all three are napping right in front of me, it's very, very hard not to follow their lead.

Vets have tested the theory that having another dog for your dog to play with causes them to run around more.   They introduced dogs to other (yard) dogs and placed a camera to watch their frolicking.  The results showed that they played for 15 minutes after the owners left the house and then sat around and slept.  They also barked more when in pairs.

My 2 English Setters sleep with their heads on the woodstove hearth. If they get hot they move to the couch next to the woodstove. If they get really hot they move to their bed in the kitchen (the designated place they are supposed to sleep on) for a few minutes, then back to the woodstove when they get cold again. I don't understand how they sleep the night through after sleeping all day.

Kinda sounds like a woman I used to date.  She would sleep 12 hours a day.  And her idea of frisky involved stretching and moving around just enough to get comfortable somewhere else.

And she wonders why I didn't think we were compatible.

My new puppy even tries to sleep while he eats, and the cat, well, he sleeps at any chance.
