depends on how much your tush hurts! really though - if you feel you need to, rest. otherwise, do something light? short run or a swim?

I am going to go with the "If you have to ask....." rule and say take rest day. But, you need to listen to your body and decide if it needs a rest.

I would depend on how you feel and what you are training for.

Tom,

After that distance, I definitely take a rest from biking, but I usually swim. That's because Sunday is when I do long rides, and then I have this kick a$$ swim class on Monday mornings. May go for an evening run (short) as well. Friday is rest day.

But if it works in your schedule to take a rest day, no harm, no foul!

Oh, I am taking the rest day, thank you all. I am a little worn after 3 days of 4+ hour workouts, but I was just curious what others did after a long ride like that....

Normally my long rides are on Sat and long runs on Sun. So unless I feel like crap I won't take a rest day...in fact I don't really have any rest days.

If the ride was on a bike, yes. In a car, no.

Guess it just depends how I feel. Probably I wouldn't, I would at least do some yoga or stretching or even a long walk.

I don't think a rest day is essential, but if you need one, you should take one. Rest days are part of training, after all.

DH and I rode 50 miles on Saturday and 62 miles on Sunday and I worked out today. But I'll probably have a rest day tomorrow. I'm a big personal fan of rest days

Depends on what you're used to. If 70 miles is a big deal, like a new personal record distance, then by all means take a rest day. In the middle of the season, like we are now, 70 miles is my fall-back distance on the bike, the distance that I do on the weeks between long rides. I generally do my long run the next day, 14+ miles.

I'm still not sure about this "rest day" concept...
