Loggerhead Triathlon - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log

Triathlon Club of the Palm Beaches
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 14m 50s
Overall Rank = 2/65
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Got the kids settled into their volunteering jobs (trying to keep them separated to minimize wrestling!) Got body marked, put my bike on the rack.
Event warmup:

Jogging with a few intervals, several bathroom breaks.
Swim
  • 11m 35s
  • 660 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Current was pulling me on a diagonal towards shore. Swallowed some water, especially after last turn in towards shore took such a big gulp, I could feel bits of seaweed in my mouth. (YUCK!!)
What would you do differently?:

Swim better.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time is included in with bike time. Did pretty well. Found bike easily, got everything on okay.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. It was a long transition from the water, up the beach, down the steps and a little ways into the parking lot.
Bike
  • 38m 57s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Used my brand new bike. Cables must be stretching because at beginning of second loop (heading into the wind, of course!) gears started changing on their own. Wanted small chainring until I could get up to speed after the U-turn, but had to do the big ring to stop the gears from flipping.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

My son was somehow in the transition area, asking me if I knew where the car keys were!?! He was making nice conversation with me until I finished and ran out. A pleasant, if not unusual distraction.
What would you do differently?:

Not bother to take off the remaining sand from the tops of my feet.
Run
  • 22m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my best segment. I always run it hard. Had a side stitch over the last 1/2 mile but just did what I had to.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little less on the bike to prevent the stitch.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, drinking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Got a little hot.

Event comments:

Very happy with everything overall. Hoping to do 1:15 or better, and just made it! Placed 2nd in my age group, but most surprising, my husband, who also raced, placed 2nd in his age group as well!

Great race Sharon...those times are awesome!  Congrats to both you and hubby.  Just think how much faster you could go if you didn't mix in the "kid juggling"!
