Subject: RE: Good races in N.O or Baton Rouge area?? Yeah for the summer heat we just acclimate and tolerate. No biggie. The only Olympic that comes close to your criteria is Indian Creek on June 10th just south of Alexandria. But that's going to be over a two-hour drive, kind of hard to do the-morning-of. We have a few sprints down here in the Lafayette Area, which is about an hour away: - Yam City Triathlon (150/14/2)-around June 24th pool swim, nice little race. In Opelousas.
- Games of Acadiana (200/10/2)- around August 18, just a bit longer than Yam City, also has a pool swim, benefits a great cause;
- CajunMan (800/20/3.1) September 9. This is the big local race, 500 participants, sells out in late June. Lots of good fun. If I had to pick one to build a trip around, it would be CajunMan.
Going out a little further, you have: - T-Gator #3, Lake Charles (525/15/2.5), final race in the series (others are in March and May). Put on by the local tri club, a little bare bones but perfectly safe and fun. LC is about 2 hours from BR.
- River Cities, Shreveport (800/20/3.1), around August 5, biggest tri in the state, ~$80 entry fee gets you in plus about $200 worth of swag. they let in 1500 racers, registration opens at 6am on 6/1 and they're usually filled by 9am. Shreveport is about 4-1/2 hours from BR.
- Meat Pie Tri, Nachitoches September 23 (800/20/3.1), well-run little tri, about 3-1/2 hours from BR.
Don't know anything about this as it is a brand new series. Looks like about the only thing interesting happening in Baton Rouge, too bad they're a bunch of sexist, discrimatory pigs. : http://www.rocketchix.com/events.html Let me know if you have any questions, hope to see you around at some of the Lafayette races.
