I just saw the end of it. Holy crap...did you see that Austrian's kick at the end. Talk about running a perfect race. Good to see some Americans finish up there too!

Did anyone else get a giggle when the announcer suggested that Williams might name her next daughter "Athena"?

Sounds like the BBC had much better coverage of the race. Wish we could see that coverage.

I agree, but I suppose if I had spent several hundred million$ to broadcast the Olympics, I'd want to air a ton of commercials and the story of one broadcaster's party last night too...

Congrats to Susan!

And it seemed like she didn't make an effort to either lean or turn her wheel.  We were watching it and looked at eachother in confusion (my sister and I) and couldn't figure it out.  We both decided it had to be something mechanical, but then she got up and started riding again.  The only thing I can thing of is she realized she was going to crash and picked the least splating method - into the foam wall....  That or she mentally froze....

But I agree, the coverage sucked big ass.  No split times!  That pissed me off.. Nol history of the sport, whiched pissed me off even more.  Overall, NBC made the sport look pretty hum drum....

I just finished watching it. We had good coverage up here because of Jill Savege.  They interviewed her after and she said she hit a patch of grease and just lost control of her back wheel.  Our broadcast didn't show the crash, just the aftermath.  That was really too bad.  She held it together for most of the interview, and then was visibly upset.  Our Canadian athletes aren't having the best of luck this year.

Did you drool over their transition spots?  No crowded bike racks, no stuff all over the place...wow!

Can't wait until tomorrow!  Simon Whitfield is our hometown boy!!!

Jen

Here in Oz we had great coverage. (and I don't think it was because Loretta led most of the way - we even had the women's marathon from start to finish and no Aussies threatened the lead in that) The commercial channel stayed with the triathlon the whole way. Unfortunately because they kept focusing on the leaders and not the main pack who they had pretty much written off, we weren't kept up to date with the charge by Allen. What a race!! (As a bonus it was on live at 3pm our time!)

Looking forward to seeing the men today.

I have to admit I was pretty envious of their transition area though. I mean, wheres the chaos? Wheres the best part of triathlon...running passed your rack?

Well, I was glad they showed some of it. But, I agree, the coverage wasn't that impressive.

I too would like to see them get into their shoes. Wonder how they do that!

And, I couldn't believe she crashed either. But, on the replay, I saw her rear wheel lock and skid 3 times.

In any event, as I say, I'm glad they showed some of it.

Rob

BTW:
Did anyone notice the number/size of those fish between the under water camera and the swimmers?

I have tried watching the Olympics on TV but it "sucks big time!" I have only seen the final few seconds in the women's triathlon. I have one question...why was there GREASE on the bike track? Tabarnac!!!!!

I was all excited that Susan Williams got bronze after crashing. She lives in my neighborhood and goes to the same church, so I was pulling for her even though I didn't expect her to place well But I thought the coverage SUCKED!!! Hardly any interviews afterwords, and hardly any coverage of the actual race. ARGH...

Sure did.
My favourite quote from the female commentator (whoever that was) came when she described Loretta Harrops performance as a "Gold medal performance"
No it wasn't missus. if she had won it would have been a gold medal performance as it was it was a silver medal performance...
