Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15,quick change thenout the door. Was a bit to quick out the door and hit my husbands truck. Dented the back bumper of the Sequoia but didn't hurt the older truck. Thanks Goodness hubby wasn't to mad at me!! Drove and picked up my best friend Klynne then off to VA Beach.
Event warmup:

Met up with my BT mentor PTinVA, Sue and her husband at King Neptune. Man was it a chilly, windy morning. No real warmup to speak of, except for trying to stay warm.

Comments:

Was not out to really race-I just wanted to be able to complete my first 8K!! This was not a great weather day due to the major winds but I had a REALLY GREAT run. Thanks to Sue for saying she would run with me because I wouldn't have even attempted to do it by myself!! When we got to the first mile I saw the clock say 12 something and was really upset that we were that slow. I forgot to take into consideration the difference in the clock and my start time. When Sue reminded me to look at our time I was happy that I was right on pace. Shins really started to get tight around the 2nd mile, but then loosened up pretty quick. Thanks goodness that we had a tailwind running down Pacific. Once we turned onto the boardwalk the winds were really bad at times. The last mile I felt great. The best for me was finally getting to meet my BT mentor and she helped me beat my goal of 55 min.

What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a bit harder for the next race. I really was surprised how good I felt on this run.
Post race
Warm down:

No real cool-down. Made our way to the free beer and stew!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really limited me. I was just out to have a good time and finish my first 8K.

Event comments:

Want to thank Sue for pushing me to register and do this race, esp since she is leaving for vacation tomorrow for three weeks. Also want to thank KLynne for coming with me in the bitter windy cold to cheer me on!! Your a great friend and sherpa!!!!

Congratulations on a great race and finishing your first 8k!!    It was really chilly and windy this morning - especially turning on to the boardwalk.

Sorry to hear about your husband's truck.  Glad he wasn't mad.

Way to go.  My crystal ball shows a 1/2 mary in your near future. My guess would Sept. and the Rock n Roll, which is basically in your back yard.

Not really as speedy as you are, but I hope to get there one day!!! When I got home hubby pushed the bumper back out. NOw its just a slight wrinkle. I'm so lucky to have a great friend like her, not to sure how I got to deserve one of the best but I thank my lucky stars everyday.  She not only is a big cheerleader but a inspiration who got me started in this crazy world of Tris! Your big race is next week and I know you'll do a rocking great job!!

Great job, so now you need to find a nice 10K to run.

And not so nice of a job backing out of the driveway, I need to make a note not to park near you.

Awesome job! You did great and how cool that you got to meet Sue!
I've never been to a race that had free beer and stew afterwards- that sounds fun (but running in that cold weather doesn't sound fun at all).
This will really boost your running confidence now

Thanks!!!The race was really fun and Sue was great!  We chatted the whole time. The beer and stew were pretty good.  I'm not to much of a beer drinker, esp at 1000 am, but it really tasted good.  Running confidence is getting better, maybe a 1/2 is in the distant future!?
