YAY! Only a few weeks away from the first race of the season! Thought I'd start a thread to check in & see who is racing, how their training is going & more importantly who wants to get some good grub on Sat. night before the race?!
My husband and I are both racing. This is my third time doing Angel's and his second.
We are actually training for the Kinetic Half the following weekend, so our focus has been on distance rather than speed. I'll be curious to see if my time improves. I'm really hoping my bike improves w/ the new bike and this being the first year I've ever actually put in training time on the bike.

Hi Kati

Looking forward to my first Angel's race. My season starts on Saturday with the Smithfield sprint triathlon. I know what you mean about the distance work. I feel like a slug these days when I try to do anything fast

I'm doing the Angels Race.  It will be my first ever tri!  I'm really looking forward to it!  I want to do it right now!

For those of you who've done it before, maybe you can answer a silly question for a newbie.  It looks like it goes right through downtown Lynchburg.  Do they close off the streets so that we don't have to deal with traffic/stop lights?

They don't completely close all the streets but where there are lights there are cops to stop traffic. The worst traffic is on River Rd. b/c it is so narrow. There are train tracks & they have staff there to give you back the time if you end up getting stuck w/ a train. In the 2 years I'be raced there hasn't been a train.
I too can't wait for this one!! This year I am ready for the big a** hill at the end of the bike & run - the last 2 years they killed me, this year I have been running hills & biking up Mill MOuntain!!

This will be my second time doing Angels. Last year's race was my first tri I competed in and I look forward to improving upon last year's time...

Training is going well, lot of base work has been completed. Getting ready to start on speed work so Angels should be a good test. At least this year I'll be prepared (mentally) for that last hill on the run.

Best of Luck to everyone who is doing Angels...

I have reserved the party room at The Depot Grille for Sat. evening at 5 pm for anyone who is interested. Let me know if you plan on coming so I have a head count to have enough seats!!!

Sounds like a fun idea.... I only live a few miles down the road so I will probably come up on Saturday.

I found a bunch of photos online from past years Angel races, and the transition area looked much more crowded than I imagined.  It looked like there's no room between each bike, so you pretty much have to do your transition stuff out from where the bike is racked.  Is that true?  Is that the way transition areas at most races are?

It wasn't much worse than any other race, you have about a 2 x 2 foot space under/beside your bike to lay out your stuff. It is a parking lot (a lot are grassy instead) so it's rough on the feet, you have a week and a half to toughen them up!! I found that about 1/3 of a yoga mat is the perfect size to lay stuff out & I can stand on it so my tender little tootsies don't get hurt on the rocks etc.
