i did it anyway. I "won" this bike on Ebay for 60$ plut 60$ shipping. its supposed to come from China. Payment was through Paypal. Could it be true? or did I just give $120 to some teenage chinese internet scammer.

It's a scam. I had someone hack into my ebay account, put up about 60 listings for DVD sets (season collections of all the hot shows), then change the paypal address/account to his own. People actually bought stuff within hours of the listing showing up, and payment was sent to some clown who likely had no intention of sending the goods.

I caught the act IN THE PROCESS. He was actively posting new items when I logged into my account...he hadn't changed the password yet.

I immediately notified Ebay and within 1 hour, all the listing swere removed and my account was credited the listing fees. I reported the paypal account address to both ebay and paypal. I 'm not sure what happened on the paypal end of things (my account information is safe there), but it was an enlightening experience.

The hassle of remembering a password that looks like: kIthd223xYz is worth it.

Did you pay with PayPal? If so you will be fine. Just be sure to file a claim.

Oh, so sorry, but he misses the paypal buyer protection criteria by 1.3%:

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/ua/USUA-outside#pbp-po...
(see section 13.9).

On the other hand, a pair of chopsticks for fifty cents would have been a bargain...

Didn't someone post on here a few months ago that ebay had sent out a warning that they had identified a network of scam artists selling bikes? I think the scammers fit this exact profile - selling top brand bikes, dirt cheap, from overseas.

Looking at his other items for sale and his feedback for the past couple of months, I'm temped to say It's not a total scam. I wouldn't be suprised of they are stolen or something like that.
He says shipping will take up to 45 days. Let us know in May if you got your bike.

I know this looks like a scam, and no I was not born yesterday. But I have gambled like that on a watch from Japan (sold for a couple hundred in US/Europe) and got lucky. I guess I like taking chances. I did pay with Paypal and will terminate the transaction if it reaches the Paypal time limit and no bike arrives. I went throught all his other feedback, all items have very similar shipping costs, all items seem to arrive about a month later, all itmes are very low price. Its like lottery, 1 dollar can get you 13mil.
I will keep you all updated.

I'd say you bought a $120 raffle ticket.  We'll see if you win the $2000 bike!

Given the title of the post, "I think this is a scam but I bought it anyway," I kinda figured that JungleDoc went ahead and "gambled" and won't really care if he losses the $120. The man is an adult and I certainly don't "care" what he does with his money. I treated this thread as a public service announcement for those who might not like to gamble.

Having said that, I don't mean to imply that I hope JungleDoc gets ripped off. Heck, I hope you "win" JungleDoc. Let us know how it works out, good or bad.

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago.   I logged onto my account and there were 31 listings for fake UGG boots with really low buy it now prices.   There were already several buyers and many bidders on others.  Ebay wasnt  quite as quick getting things straightened out.  I just had to email them a few days ago because they took off all the listing fees except for a couple.  I dont know how they missed them.  Anyway that was a huge hassle, especially because they closed my account for a few days and I really needed to use it.   I hate SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!
