ok so i have been on this for a year and this is my first post.  It may very well, be the first time i have been on this forum.  I guess that qualifies me as a lurker.  sorry.  I am fairly new to this triathlon stuff. I did my first sprint past spring for fun and decided to keep it up this summer as well. i hope to do a few more races this summer.  I love the bike and I think i am getting used to the pool.  but i hate to run.  It hurts.  Five surgeries on my right knee and I no longer run so gracefully.  Ok so that is a little bit about me.

Welcome, good luck with your training! Maybe you can find some folks that have some ideas about how to make the running easier for you.

Good luck with your goals.

If I were you I'd take advantage of the logs on this site - they are AWESOME.  Great way to track your training.

I agree with the logs comment. They help me stay motivated and allow my BT buddies to make recommendations that have helped a great deal.

I have heard that strengthening the muscles around your knee helps alot. Also I think someone mentioned that form when running makes a big difference. Maybe you should check those things out. Good luck! Hope the running gets easier!

Thank you all for all your advice.  I tried to post some of the following info before and it did not go through for some reason,  so i will try again.  Unfortunately there is not much they can do for my keen.  I am 6'10" 250 lbs and about 10% body fat.  I played basketball professionally for 10 years and Ended my carreer becasue i needed a triple microfracture surgery.  Basically that means I have nothing in between the bones of my knee.  I can run and enjoy a good life, but if i run for too much i actually bruise the bone and that is not much fun.  Currently, I have 2 small scabs that are acting in place of the cartiledge i am missing.  Form, strengthening and rehab are a big part of my life and my purpose for being here is to help keep that knee as healthly as possible.  From my experience you ahve all offered some great advice and I am very thankful for it.

Welcome to BT!!  I don't know a lot about your knee condition, but I would imagine that if you are able to swim and bike to keep your fitness up and are willing to take the run at whatever feels comfortable, you'll still be able to have a very fulfilling triathlon experience.  If the running proves to be too much, look into relays.  Its a great way to be involved with triathlon and wouldn't put your body at risk from the running.

There are also aquabike events, where you swim and then bike.  No running.  Might be something you want to look into as well.  I think with multisport, there's a LOT of options out there if you find that running is too hard for you to do that much of.
