Comments:

First HIM race..just remembered to breath and relax. passed more and more people and felt good. Swam on outside to avoid the kicking. Was in last wave of race so I had to pass lots of people. Think i plaed it safe and was rewarded with a great swim for me.
What would you do differently?:

push my self a little harder maybe. I could have probably taken a couple minutes off of the swim time as I wasn't pushing myself hard.

Had a lot of gas on the ride. Was worried I would have to do a number two so I kept farting as much as possible. Felt bad for all the people I passed and farted on.
What would you do differently?:

COuld have pushed myself quite a bit harder considering I knew I wasn't going to run much.

Event comments:

Great race. I met my goals. First HIM. Bike + swim in under 3.5 hours and overall in under 6 hours. In a lot of pain the day after on feet/knees as I couldn't run more than a couple miles elading upto the event without ITB rearing its ugly head.

Over 20mph on the bike?! Is that a misprint.

That is some killer time.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the positive comments. This site and great community has really helped me in dealing with my injury and staying motivated.

It's kinda funny as I'm spending the rest of this on spring break in the LA area (joys of being a teacher) and I have plenty of clothes but I doubt I'll be wearing anything other than finishers T-shirt and another one I bought in one of the merchanise tents.

Next race is going to be the full Vineman Aquabike as I don't plan on triyng to run for at least a month and starting some new rehab pathways.

"the hill" was quite fun and I'm glad I have a similar hill on my normal 60 mile ride at approximately the same distance in. Oddly enough it was the second large hill that proved the bigger challenge for me as I wasn't quite expecting it as I geared myself mentally only for the first one. The bike portion I think is my strength and I did my best to keep my heart rate below 180 except for the hills where it rocket upto a max of 195 at one point.

Thanks again!

Grea RR,,,,, Now let me ask, that wasn't illegal jet propulsion you were using on the bike was it?

Awesome job getting through that!!!
