Subject: A cold is threatening my training!!
I swam for 90 minutes yesterday, and got out of the pool feeling proud, and a little like a pool filter. By bedtime, I had a runny nose and overnight the typical head cold ensued.

I've had many cups of tea, and a bit of rest but still feel like I've been run over by a small truck, not a Freightliner. I keep asking my Aunt whom I am visiting for a witches brew or a doctor's concoction (she's an MD) but I've only been upgraded from Green tra to Blackberry tea.

Help! I'm traveling tomorrow which already messes me up, and I feel "unmotivated" to r/b/s, to put it politely.

I just recently got over a cold myself. It was quite the doozy, and put me out of training for a solid week. I wouldn't worry much about missing training, as it seems you don't have any races until next month. As far as getting better, I recommend fluids, saline nasal spray, humidifiers, and plenty of soup and ice cream. The ice cream is really just for moral support. Get better soon and hang in there.

Just finishing up a cold here too. Fluids, zinc, C and of course, chicken soup. I also took a couple of extra days of rest and started back slowly. I figure a few extra days isn't going to hurt anything and will help speed up recovery.

Just a note on ice cream... there is some weird link between ice cream and sinus infections.

Irony= three bowls of chicken matza ball soup at Passover Seder last night and I didn't prevent this cold from taking effect!

Ya, no races soon, but I am still scared stiff about the 1/2 IM in my future!

If you feel too hammered to train, don't.  If you are all weak and don't feel well, any training you do will just be "junk miles" anyway.  Might do as much harm as good.   I have a hard time with it too, but sometimes a few days off is better training than actual training.   Get some rest and you'll be back in a week tops.

I just got over a cold as well. I had to take a week off. when I started back up, I felt a little funky at first but almost right away felt strong as ever.

I think the time off actually may have helped a little by giving the bod some time to heal from some nagging injuries.

Anyway, I was a little freaked about missing a week at first but now it doesn't seem like to big of a deal.

I've got a cold too.....sore throat, sinus, ears are popping..............

But from the neck down I feel fine, so I'll just do some easy training just to keep things moving along.

Once in a while you may prevent one from getting you but it still is working on your system in the back ground - reason why you may not feel too motivated but not sure why.

I just got over a good one that kept me from doing anything for a solid week too (just started yesterday), but it's better to give it the rest it want's or risk having it linger for a longer amount of time. I have a 1/2 marathon in two weeks.

Give it what it want's and it will go away faster. Good luck.

Try Airborne...

I used to get 5-6 colds a year that would often last up to 2-3 weeks after turning into upper resp. infections.

I take airborne, take rest weeks more frequently and haven't had a cold for almost a year. We have 5 kids and part of the winter someone had one for 6 weeks and for a nice change it wasn't me.

I'm just getting over a nasty cold, too. Seems to be going around. I don't have any magic remedies, but I hope you feel better soon!

I take cold-eeze zinc lozenges, kept me from colds for about a year. Except last week, when nothing helped except mucinex, lasted a week. Still have a cough, but don't see too much of a loss in my stamina.
